Microsoft Teams is planning to let certified third-party providers detect synthetic or manipulated audio and video in meetings, with Teams surfacing the providers’ signals to participants. Microsoft’s roadmap listed the feature as in development on October 7, 2026, and targeted general availability for November 2026; that is a target, not a confirmed release date.
What Teams’ planned deepfake detection support means
The planned feature separates detection from the Teams experience. A certified third-party provider analyzes meeting audio or video for signs of synthetic media and sends a detection signal. Teams supplies the platform integration and in-meeting experience for surfacing and acting on that signal. Microsoft’s roadmap makes the distinction explicit: “Synthetic media detection is performed by the third-party provider.” Microsoft 365 roadmap item 573451 describes the capability as third-party synthetic audio and video detection.

So “Teams support” does not mean Microsoft has announced that it built or operates a deepfake-detection model. It means Teams is preparing to interoperate with supported providers and show their findings in meetings.

When it is expected and where it is planned to work
Roadmap item 573451 was published on October 2, 2026, and last updated on October 7. At that update, its status was In development, with general availability targeted for November 2026. Microsoft listed desktop, Mac, and web, and the cloud scope as Worldwide (Standard Multi-Tenant). Roadmap schedules can change, so the November date should be read as a plan rather than a promise that the feature is already available.

How a detection signal may reach meeting participants
Microsoft Graph’s beta documentation describes a reportSyntheticMedia action for a participant in a meeting call. A certified third-party detection bot admitted to the call can report that it identifies a participant’s stream as synthetic. The result is propagated to participants through roster updates. The documented report structure includes detection time, severity, confidence, modality, and model-task details. Microsoft Graph beta documentation shows example payloads; example confidence values are illustrations of the data format, not detector accuracy results.
This Graph endpoint is explicitly a beta surface, not evidence that a stable, generally available API is ready for customer integrations. Microsoft also cautions that Graph SDKs default to v1.0 and may not support all beta types and properties.

Which providers and requirements are known
Microsoft’s roadmap refers to certified third-party providers, but the roadmap and Graph documentation do not name any providers or publish certification criteria. They also do not establish which services will be available at launch. The reviewed materials state no provider-specific compatibility, pricing, licensing, or tenant setup requirements.

Who handles problems with a third-party bot
Microsoft’s general Teams bot guidance says it does not provide direct support for ISV-owned bot solutions. For a problem with a third-party bot, Microsoft directs customers to contact the independent software vendor (ISV) first; the ISV can involve Microsoft through partner support channels if necessary. This is general guidance for ISV-owned bots, not a detailed support policy specific to future synthetic-media detection providers. Microsoft’s Teams Bot Identification Program guidance was last updated August 26, 2026.

- Which detection providers will be certified or available at launch.
- How providers will be certified.
- Detection accuracy, false-positive rates, or a common review process.
- Provider pricing, data-handling terms, tenant prerequisites, or licensing requirements.
- The final release date or the exact controls and user experience at launch.
