You do not necessarily need both Teams Premium and Copilot to use intelligent recap. Microsoft documents either a Teams Premium license or a Microsoft Copilot license as an access route. Teams Premium is the more focused Teams add-on; Microsoft 365 Copilot includes broader Copilot capabilities across Microsoft 365, including Teams. The right choice depends on which other features you need, your event type, and your organization’s settings.
What’s the difference between Teams Copilot and intelligent recap?
They are not equivalent products. Intelligent recap is an AI-powered post-event experience: it can generate summaries, tasks, mentions, and personalized highlights to help people review a supported meeting or event. Microsoft 365 Copilot is a broader license that enables Copilot capabilities in Teams and other Microsoft 365 apps. Teams Premium is a Teams-focused add-on with additional meeting and event features, including intelligent recap access.

Standard Teams recap is separate from the AI layer. For supported events with a recording or transcript, a recap can include the recording, transcript, shared files, notes, agenda, and follow-up tasks. Intelligent recap adds AI-generated content and navigation. See Microsoft’s Recap in Microsoft Teams documentation for the distinction.
Do I need Teams Premium for intelligent recap?
No, not necessarily. Microsoft lists Teams Premium or a Microsoft Copilot license as ways to access intelligent recap. That means users do not automatically need both. The exact features available still depend on the license, the kind of event, supported language, and organization configuration. Microsoft’s Meeting Recaps app guide describes the license paths, while its Teams Premium overview outlines Premium’s meeting features.
#1 Best Overall
- SUPPORT WORK FROM ANYWHERE WITH SYNC: Whether employees are in the office, at home, or somewhere else, Sync device management software helps everyone stay connected by letting you ensure their Logitech video collaboration personal devices are being used and up to date.
- Open workspaces are great for collaboration, but not so great when the noise around you makes it hard to concentrate. Active noise cancellation substantially reduces unwanted ambient sound, so you can get focused and stay focused.
- Great for Music and Talking with immersive sound for listening to music and a noise-canceling mic that ensures that your voice is heard on the other end of a call—not the noise around you.
- On ear controls to adjust volume, start/end calls, and invoke Teams. Plus button controls for power, active noise cancellation (ANC), wireless Bluetooth pairing, and mute on/off or use the flip-to-mute mic feature.
- Certified for Microsoft Teams ensures it’s easy to pick-up or answer Teams meetings, calls, messages, and notifications with a single press to the Teams button. Or apply a longer touch to invoke Cortana voice skills.
What does each option include?

| Intelligent recap | Microsoft lists it as included | Microsoft lists it as included |

The prices are not a like-for-like comparison: Copilot’s wider app capabilities go beyond meeting recap. Microsoft’s U.S. business pricing page displayed Teams Premium at $10 per user per month with annual billing and Copilot Business starting at a promotional $18 per user per month with annual billing. Promotion terms and eligibility apply. Check the Microsoft Teams business pricing page and Microsoft 365 Copilot pricing page for current terms; regional pricing, tax, offers, and qualifying base subscriptions can affect your actual cost.
What does the Meeting Recaps app provide?
The Meeting Recaps app offers text-based intelligent recaps, video recaps, and audio recaps, but access differs by format. Microsoft says intelligent recaps require either Copilot or Teams Premium, while audio and video recaps require Copilot. The Meeting Recaps app itself is not supported on Teams mobile; that limitation should not be taken to mean every Teams recap surface is unavailable on mobile.

How do you open a recap, and who can see it?
For a supported event, open the recap from the event’s chat or calendar. Access is permission-based. Microsoft’s recap documentation says intelligent recaps for webinars and town halls are limited to organizers, co-organizers, and presenters. Sharing and visibility also depend on event permissions and organizational access policies.

What can affect intelligent recap availability?
Event data and recording or transcription
Standard recap materials are associated with supported events after recording or transcription. Intelligent recap uses the event transcript, attendance data, and PowerPoint Live data, so the resulting summary and highlights depend on the event information available to the system. Microsoft cautions that AI-generated content can be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate.

Language support
Microsoft lists supported languages and says Teams Premium AI features depend on the event’s spoken and transcribed languages being supported. Check Microsoft’s current recap documentation for the applicable language list before relying on AI features for a particular meeting.
Organization policies and retention
Administrators’ configuration and organization policies affect access and stored data. Microsoft says notes and tasks expire according to organization policies, so recap availability and retention may differ between tenants.

Which license should you choose?
- Choose Teams Premium if your priority is Teams-specific meeting and event enhancements, such as AI notes, task assignment, personalized timeline markers, and speaker suggestions, and you have an eligible Teams license.
- Choose Microsoft 365 Copilot if you also want Copilot capabilities across Microsoft 365 apps and can meet the subscription and promotional eligibility requirements. It can provide intelligent recap access as part of that broader scope.
- Do not buy both solely for intelligent recap unless your organization has another requirement for the additional capabilities or licensing. Microsoft documents either path for intelligent recap.
Before purchasing, confirm the license prerequisites and current price for your region, then check whether your tenant’s event permissions, language support, and admin policies fit the way your team works.
