What a Microsoft Store URI does
Microsoft documents ms-windows-store: as a scheme apps can use to open specific pages in the Store. In a Windows app, pass the URI to LaunchUriAsync; the method returns a result indicating the outcome of the launch request, not a guarantee that a particular page appeared as expected. This is different from launching an installed app. A Store URI opens Store content; an installed app generally needs its own launch mechanism or registered URI scheme. Windows’ general URI guidance explains that the default app associated with a scheme handles a URI, and that the user may determine which app handles it when multiple apps register for the same scheme: Launch the default Windows app for a URI.

Use the Windows launcher API in app code. For example, this C# call requests the Store’s Gaming page:

The example demonstrates the documented launch method; it does not establish that navigation was independently tested. Choose the URI for the destination
These documented patterns open different Store destinations. Replace example product IDs and search terms with the values you need; encode special characters in query values appropriately.

Use ProductId for product links
For a product detail page, Microsoft recommends the ProductId form: ms-windows-store://pdp/?ProductId=PRODUCT_ID. The text PRODUCT_ID is a stand-in; substitute the identifier belonging to the listing. Microsoft says the older PFN and AppId forms remain supported in the Store app on Windows 10 and Windows 11, but are deprecated and may not be supported in the future. Prefer ProductId for new product-page links.
Know the mini-mode and regional limits
Microsoft’s Store URI documentation says that, beginning February 2026, activations using mode=mini default to the standard full-page Store experience. Do not rely on that parameter to open a compact Store view. The same documentation notes that top-level Store sections can vary by region, so a section listed in a URI example may not be available in every market.

When you mean an installed app
A Store product URI takes the user to Store content, not directly into the installed product. To open an installed app, use its documented launch mechanism or a URI scheme registered by that app. The general Windows URI-launch model invokes the app associated with a scheme; it does not provide one universal URI that starts every app installed from the Store.
