The result, reported July 29, points to strong cloud-led growth—but it does not by itself prove a lasting company-wide revival. Microsoft’s latest figures also show declines in Windows OEM and Devices and Xbox content and services.
What milestone has Microsoft reached?
Azure passed $100 billion in revenue for the first time during Microsoft’s fiscal year 2026, which ran through June 30. Microsoft announced the milestone in its July 29, 2026 earnings release. That means “nearing” is no longer accurate: the milestone had been reached before the results were published.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella described the result as evidence of customer confidence in the company’s role in AI transformation. That is management’s interpretation; the revenue figure establishes the scale of Azure’s business, not on its own the return on Microsoft’s AI investments.

Growth extended beyond Azure. Microsoft reported higher revenue, operating income, and GAAP net income for both the fiscal year and its final quarter.
#1 Best Overall
| Measure | Q4 FY2026 | FY2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $90.0 billion, up 18% year over year | $331.8 billion, up 18% |
| Operating income | $40.6 billion, up 18% | $155.2 billion, up 21% |
| GAAP net income | $35.8 billion, up 31% | $133.7 billion, up 31% |
Microsoft Cloud revenue reached $59.3 billion in Q4, up 27% year over year. Azure and other cloud-services revenue grew 43% in that quarter. CFO Amy Hood called the quarter strong, pointing to Microsoft Cloud’s growth; these figures are the company’s reported results, while the “strong” characterization is hers.
Where was growth weaker?
The results were not uniform across Microsoft’s businesses. More Personal Computing revenue was $12.9 billion in Q4, down 4% year over year. Within that segment, Windows OEM and Devices revenue fell 7%, and Xbox content and services revenue fell 10%.
Rank #2
That contrast matters when judging a claimed revival: cloud and Azure growth were robust, but these declines show that not every major consumer-facing business was expanding in the same quarter.
What explains the jump in Microsoft shares?
Reuters reported that Microsoft shares closed more than 15% higher on July 30, 2026, after the earnings release, bringing the company’s market capitalization to $3.35 trillion. Citing LSEG data, Reuters said Microsoft added nearly $450 billion in market value that day. The report linked the reaction to stronger-than-expected cloud-growth forecasts and signals of continued cash generation into the new fiscal year.
A one-day change in market value is investors’ repricing of expected future value—not revenue Microsoft earned that day, nor a line item in its financial statements. Reuters quoted Zacks Investment Management chief market strategist Brian Mulberry, who said the results and the cloud- and AI-led drivers matched what markets wanted to hear. That is an assessment of the market reaction, not proof that the rally will persist.
Do the earnings prove a lasting revival?
They support a clear but narrower conclusion: Microsoft ended FY2026 with substantial growth, led by cloud services, alongside higher operating income and GAAP net income. They do not settle whether the company has undergone a durable revival. That judgment would require a defined comparison point and results over multiple reporting periods, particularly as cloud growth is weighed against weaker Windows and Xbox performance.

There is also an accounting detail behind the quarter’s earnings-per-share comparison. Microsoft said Q4 earnings per diluted share included a $0.27 benefit from several discrete items compared with guidance. The release identifies a $3.2 billion gain from its Anthropic investment, lower-than-expected voluntary retirement program costs, severance expense, and Xbox impairment charges among those items. The $0.27 is a reported benefit relative to guidance, not a separate measure of recurring operating growth.

Microsoft separately presents non-GAAP reconciliations that exclude effects from its OpenAI investment. The company advises readers to consider non-GAAP measures alongside GAAP results, not instead of them or as superior to them. The discrete items affecting the guidance comparison and the OpenAI-related non-GAAP adjustment are distinct disclosures; they should not be treated as interchangeable explanations for the quarter.
