Micron’s latest reported results and near-term forecast point to powerful memory demand and constrained supply—not to an already confirmed price peak. But they do not prove that memory prices cannot turn lower, or that the stock is cheap. The claim that Micron shares “dropped” after earnings also needs a time window: the Associated Press reported a 3% gain on October 1, 2026, while Morningstar described the immediate reaction as flat.
What Micron reported—and what it forecast
Micron’s fiscal fourth quarter and fiscal year ended September 3, 2026. In its September 30 earnings release, the company reported $54.23 billion in Q4 revenue, up from $41.46 billion in the prior quarter and $11.32 billion a year earlier. Fiscal 2026 revenue was $133.19 billion, compared with $37.38 billion in fiscal 2025. These are company-reported results, not forecasts.

| Fiscal Q4 2026 revenue | $54.23 billion | Company-reported result; $41.46 billion in the prior quarter and $11.32 billion in the year-earlier quarter. |
| Fiscal 2026 revenue | $133.19 billion | Company-reported full-year result; fiscal 2025 revenue was $37.38 billion. |
| Fiscal Q1 2027 revenue | $61.5 billion ± $1.5 billion | Management guidance, not an achieved result. |
| Fiscal Q1 2027 non-GAAP gross margin | Approximately 86.25% | Management guidance; a non-GAAP measure. |
| Fiscal Q1 2027 non-GAAP diluted EPS | $38.15 ± $1.00 | Management guidance; a non-GAAP measure. |
The guidance is the clearest evidence against a claim that Micron itself was already forecasting an immediate collapse in its business. It is not proof that the forecast will be met, that market prices have further to rise, or that investors have not already priced in strong earnings.

Micron’s fiscal Q3 2026 Form 10-Q attributed improved pricing and profitability to robust DRAM and NAND demand alongside constrained supply. The company said AI-driven demand for memory and storage in data centers had grown beyond the ability of Micron and the wider industry to increase supply quickly enough.

The Q3 filing also illustrates why revenue growth should not be confused with shipment growth. Sequentially, DRAM sales increased 67%, primarily because average selling prices rose in the low-60% range while bit shipments grew in the low-single-digit range. NAND sales increased 99%, primarily because average selling prices rose in the mid-80% range while bit shipments grew in the mid-single-digit range. These are fiscal Q3 figures, not Q4 results, and the price and shipment ranges are Micron’s reported descriptions.
Shipments and prices are different signals
Micron expects DRAM and NAND bit shipments to grow in the low-to-mid 20% ranges over the next two years, according to Tom’s Hardware’s October 1, 2026 coverage of the company’s outlook. That is a forecast for the number of bits shipped, not a forecast that memory prices will rise by the same percentage. Revenue and margins depend on both shipment volumes and prices, as well as product mix.
Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra told analysts, “We do not have line of sight to when supply and demand will return to balance,” as quoted by Tom’s Hardware on October 1. The statement captures the central uncertainty: demand is strong, but the timing and scale of additional industry supply—and the point at which it catches up—are not established.

What could still cause a peak or downturn
Strong demand today does not remove the memory industry’s exposure to cycles. In its fiscal Q3 2026 Form 10-Q, Micron warned that weaker demand for products that use memory—including PCs, smartphones, automobiles, and servers—could reduce memory demand, average selling prices, and product sales. The filing also says customers may modify, delay, or cancel orders.
That risk matters because prices can change faster than shipment capacity. If customers buy less, or suppliers add capacity into a period of weaker demand, pricing and profitability could retreat even if data-center use continues to grow. The reviewed company outlook does not establish a definite date when memory prices will peak, and it should not be treated as independent industry consensus.
Strategic agreements provide visibility, not a market-wide floor
Micron’s filing describes multi-year, take-or-pay strategic customer agreements with binding volume commitments. Most have either fixed pricing or minimum and maximum pricing. The company says these arrangements improve customer supply assurance and give Micron greater visibility into performance.

Those contracts do not mean every sale is at a fixed price, nor do they guarantee that the broader DRAM and NAND markets cannot weaken. They are one source of customer and volume visibility within a business still exposed to market demand and pricing.

The available accounts do not support an unqualified statement that Micron stock fell after the earnings report. The Associated Press reported that MU rose 3% on October 1, 2026, the session after the report, following an earnings beat and stronger guidance. Morningstar described the market reaction as flat. Those descriptions may use different observation windows; they do not establish a sustained post-earnings decline.
A share-price move over one session is also separate from the memory-cycle question. A stock can fall over a particular interval even while a company reports strong results, if investors expected still more, reconsider valuation, or focus on future margins. The evidence here does not identify a specific interval in which MU “dropped,” so the headline claim should not be read as a verified description of the immediate October 1 session.

How to judge the peak-cycle argument
The bullish and cautious readings can both fit the reported facts. Micron’s results, guidance, and explanation of constrained supply support the case that demand and pricing conditions remain unusually strong. The caution is that peak-cycle earnings can be high before prices normalize, and the stock price reflects expectations about future results—not just the latest quarter.
- Compare results with expectations. A strong quarter is not automatically a positive surprise if investors had already priced in even stronger performance.
- Separate price from volume. Q3’s large revenue increases were driven primarily by average selling prices, while bit shipments grew more modestly. Watch whether future growth comes from more bits shipped, stronger pricing, or both.
- Track business mix. Micron reported Q4 operating margins of 76% for Cloud Memory, 85% for Core Data Center, 88% for Mobile and Client, and 79% for Automotive and Embedded. These are operating margins for distinct business units—not gross margins—and show why product and customer mix matter.
- Weigh contract visibility against broader exposure. Strategic agreements support visibility for committed customer volumes, while the SEC filing’s demand and order risks still apply to the wider business.
- Ask what happens when supply catches up. The company’s forecast of shipment growth and its view of constrained supply do not specify when pricing will turn. Morningstar’s October 1 assessment said much of the upswing may already be reflected in the stock and pointed to future supply growth and later pricing pressure; that is a valuation and cycle-risk interpretation, not a confirmed peak date.
The evidence-backed verdict
Micron’s fiscal Q4 and full-year results, plus its fiscal Q1 2027 guidance, show exceptional current performance and management’s expectation of continued strength. The company attributes that strength to demand outpacing available supply, especially as AI data-center needs grow. At the same time, its SEC filing explicitly preserves the possibility that weaker end-market demand or changing orders could pressure prices and sales. The evidence supports a strong-now, uncertain-cycle reading—not a definite memory-price peak date, and not a verified claim of an immediate post-earnings stock drop.
