Microlink vs ScreenshotOne for Full-Page Screenshots and PDFs

Microlink and ScreenshotOne both capture webpages and generate PDFs, but differ in documented full-page, scrolling, and layout controls. Here’s how to choose and test them.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Both Microlink and ScreenshotOne provide APIs for full-page website screenshots and PDFs, but their documented controls differ. Microlink offers a straightforward fullPage screenshot option and conventional PDF layout controls; ScreenshotOne documents scrolling and alternative full-page algorithms, plus settings for fitting a rendered page onto one PDF sheet. Choose based on the output you need and how your own pages render: the available documentation does not establish a universal winner for quality, speed, or reliability.

Start with the output you actually need

“Full page” can mean either one tall image or a PDF that preserves the on-screen design. Those are not the same as a conventional print-oriented PDF, which may paginate content and use print-specific styles.

  • One tall image: Compare full-page capture, scrolling and lazy-load handling, image format, and how you retrieve or reuse the result.
  • One-page PDF: Use settings intended to fit the rendered page onto one sheet. Expect a very tall or scaled-down document on long pages.
  • Readable multipage PDF: Prefer paper size, margins, and print styles so the content breaks into pages suitable for reading or printing.

Both APIs render web content and can produce image or PDF assets. Microlink documents hosted assets and a direct-PDF response option; ScreenshotOne’s cited documentation focuses on capture options and pricing rather than establishing a directly comparable delivery workflow.

Microlink vs ScreenshotOne: documented differences

Question Microlink ScreenshotOne
Full-page image screenshot.fullPage: true captures the scrollable page. The response exposes a hosted image asset with metadata. PNG/JPEG formats and element capture are documented in its screenshot guide and SDK methods. full_page=true enables scrolling by default to help load lazy images. The documented options include a default algorithm and by_sections, which captures sections and combines them into one image. See options and the full-page guide.
PDF layout Supports paper format, margins, scale, page ranges, and print or screen media styling. Print media is the documented default. Generated PDFs can be exposed through a hosted CDN URL or returned directly. See the PDF guide. Supports PDF output and options including screen media, printed backgrounds, and fitting the site onto one page. The one-page-fit setting is off by default; backgrounds are also off by default. See options.
Documented allowance or price The PDF guide states 25 free requests per day; this is a changeable vendor allowance. A current paid price is not stated in that guide. The pricing page accessed 2026-10-03 lists 100 free screenshots per month and paid monthly tiers; see the dated figures below and verify the live page before buying.
Same-page speed or reliability comparison Not established by the cited documentation. Not established by the cited documentation. ScreenshotOne cautions that full-page rendering may not work for every page, even after tuning.

Capture a full-page image with Microlink

Microlink documents a request with the target URL and a screenshot option whose fullPage value is true. A representative request structure is:

https://api.microlink.io/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fexample.com&screenshot.fullPage=true

Use the API’s documented request format for your integration or SDK. The screenshot guide describes the returned hosted asset and metadata such as type, dimensions, and size. Check the actual response before assuming the asset is a direct binary download.

Generate PDFs with Microlink

For a default PDF, Microlink documents a URL plus pdf: true; a PDF options object allows control over paper format, margins, scale, and page ranges. Print media styles are the default. If the intended result should resemble the page in a browser, use screen media styling where supported by the documented PDF options. The API can return a hosted CDN URL or be configured to return the PDF directly.

For PDF-only requests, Microlink’s guide says disabling metadata extraction is usually the biggest speedup. That is vendor guidance, not a measured guarantee for every URL or workload. Microlink also states in the guide, accessed 2026-10-03, that its API works without an API key and allows 25 free requests per day; confirm the current allowance before relying on it.

Capture full pages and one-sheet PDFs with ScreenshotOne

Set full_page=true for a full-page image. ScreenshotOne says this enables scrolling by default to help request lazy-loaded images. Its by_sections algorithm captures page sections and combines them into one image; the vendor says it can help with more complex animated pages. That is a documented option, not a guarantee of success on every site.

To make a PDF resemble one long screenshot, ScreenshotOne recommends format=pdf&media_type=screen&pdf_print_background=true&pdf_fit_one_page=true. The background and one-page-fit settings are off by default. This is appropriate when a single tall sheet is the desired output, not necessarily when readers need a conventional multipage document.

ScreenshotOne’s full-page guide recommends experimenting with viewport dimensions, algorithm, scrolling, reduced motion, and added wait time. It also notes that improving output quality can reduce performance. Its documentation states: “Rendering full-page screenshots reliably is a real challenge. And even after a lot of tuning, it might not work for all the pages.” That is ScreenshotOne’s caution about the rendering problem, not comparative evidence against Microlink.

Compare allowance and cost carefully

ScreenshotOne’s pricing page, accessed 2026-10-03, lists the following monthly plans and overage rates. These are provider-published figures, exclude VAT, and may change.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
ScreenshotOne plan Monthly price Included screenshots Displayed extra-use rate
Free $0 100 per month Not stated
Basic $17/month 2,000 $0.009 per extra screenshot
Growth $79/month 10,000 $0.006 per extra screenshot
Scale $259/month 50,000 $0.004 per extra screenshot

ScreenshotOne says only successful requests are billed, extra usage is opt-in and capped by a monthly hard limit, and credits reset monthly without rollover. Its credits guide says, “Currently, everything costs 1 credit, be it a full-page screenshot, a scrolling screenshot, a PDF, or a video.” Treat that credit policy as current documentation, not a permanent rule. Verify plan terms on the pricing page and credits guide.

Microlink’s PDF guide states 25 free requests per day, but it does not state a current paid plan price in the cited passage. That daily allowance and ScreenshotOne’s monthly screenshot quota are different units, so they are not a direct price comparison. Check Microlink’s current plans and normalize included usage, overages, and required features before deciding on cost.

How to choose for your pages

Choose Microlink when

  • You want a simple documented fullPage screenshot option.
  • Your PDF workflow needs explicit paper, margin, scale, or page-range controls.
  • You want print styles by default, with the option to use screen styles for an on-screen rendition.
  • A hosted asset or configurable direct PDF response fits your downstream workflow.

Choose ScreenshotOne when

  • You want documented controls for scrolling, the full-page algorithm, and section-by-section capture.
  • You need the documented recipe for a screen-style, background-inclusive PDF fitted to one sheet.
  • The published monthly tiers and success-based billing model match your expected usage after checking current terms.

Test before committing

Neither provider’s cited materials establish which is faster or more reliable on the same pages. Run representative URLs through both services with the output settings you plan to use. Include long pages, lazy-loaded images, sticky headers, animations, and pages with print-specific styles. Compare missing content, duplicated or obscured sections, image dimensions, PDF page breaks, and whether the result can be consumed in your application.

Troubleshooting full-page captures and PDFs

  • Images or lower-page content are missing: Check whether the service scrolls the page and whether lazy loading needs more time. For ScreenshotOne, full_page=true enables scrolling by default; test added wait time and viewport dimensions as the guide recommends.
  • Animated sections look inconsistent: Try reduced motion or ScreenshotOne’s by_sections algorithm, then compare results on the affected page. Neither option guarantees a correct capture.
  • The PDF is paginated when you wanted one tall page: In ScreenshotOne, enable pdf_fit_one_page. In Microlink, configure the PDF options for the intended page layout rather than assuming a screenshot and a print PDF behave alike.
  • The PDF looks unlike the browser page: Check media type. Microlink defaults to print media; its guide describes screen media when on-screen appearance is preferred. ScreenshotOne’s one-page recipe uses media_type=screen.
  • Background colors or images disappear: ScreenshotOne’s pdf_print_background is off by default; enable it when the design requires printed backgrounds.
  • Capture takes too long or quality changes with tuning: Reduce unnecessary waiting or test a simpler algorithm and viewport. ScreenshotOne notes that quality improvements can reduce performance. For Microlink PDF-only requests, its guide says disabling metadata extraction is usually the biggest speedup, without promising a particular time saving.
  • Costs differ from your estimate: Confirm the current plan, billing unit, credit rules, overage opt-in, and monthly cap on the provider’s live pricing and documentation pages. The figures here were displayed by ScreenshotOne on 2026-10-03; Microlink’s stated free allowance is per day, not per month.
