A Micro RGB TV is an LCD television with individually controlled red, green and blue micro LEDs in its backlight. The LCD panel still forms the picture; the LEDs illuminate it. That makes Micro RGB different from MicroLED, where each tiny LED is itself a self-emissive pixel.
What does “Micro RGB” mean in a TV?
“Micro” describes the size of the backlight LEDs, while “RGB” refers to their red, green and blue colors. Samsung describes its Micro RGB backlight LEDs as smaller than 100 micrometers and individually controlled. They sit behind an LCD panel rather than serving as the pixels that make up the image. Samsung’s 2025 launch announcement and its Micro RGB technology guide describe that architecture.

The term is also used in product names. Samsung markets a Micro RGB TV line, and LG announced a 2026 LCD line called Micro RGB evo. Similar naming does not establish that different manufacturers’ implementations are identical.

| Technology | How the image is made |
|---|---|
| Micro RGB | Red, green and blue LEDs provide the backlight; an LCD panel forms the image. |
| MicroLED | Each LED pixel emits its own light. |
The distinction is structural, not just a difference in spelling. Micro RGB remains an LCD technology, even when the backlight LEDs are very small and individually controlled.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How does it compare with other LCD backlights?
Backlight designs vary, and broad labels do not guarantee identical hardware across manufacturers. In its comparison of its own TV families, Samsung describes conventional LED TVs as generally using blue LEDs with phosphor, its Neo QLED Mini LED TVs as using blue Mini LEDs with a Quantum Dot sheet, and its Micro RGB TVs as using red, green and blue backlight elements. Those are Samsung’s descriptions of its product families, not universal specifications for every television using these terms. Samsung UK’s 2026 product page provides its current family information.
Which TVs use the Micro RGB name?
- Samsung: The company announced a 115-inch Micro RGB television in Korea on August 12, 2025, describing its LEDs as under 100 micrometers and individually controlled. Its UK product page for 2026 lists R95H and R85H models, with listed variants spanning 55, 65, 75, 85, 100 and 115 inches. The page also references 130-inch models introduced at CES 2026 and expected later that year; availability depends on market and timing. Check the regional product page for current details.
- LG: In a December 16, 2025 announcement, LG introduced Micro RGB evo as a 2026 LCD TV line and named the MRGB95 in 75-, 86- and 100-inch sizes. LG describes precision control of each RGB backlight LED; the set remains an LCD TV. See LG’s announcement.
What do the color-gamut claims establish?
Manufacturers have published large color-gamut figures for particular products, but those claims should not be treated as proof that every Micro RGB television achieves the same result or that the technology universally outperforms another display type.

- Samsung: Its 2025 launch announcement attributes 100% BT.2020 color coverage to its Micro RGB display and identifies VDE Micro RGB Precision Color certification. Samsung’s guide describes the footnote as a VDE-certified result of at least 100% BT.2020 color area. These are Samsung’s certification-linked claims for its product, not a category-wide result. Read the launch announcement and technology guide.
- LG: Its December 2025 release reports Intertek-certified coverage of 100% BT.2020, DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB for LG Micro RGB evo. These are manufacturer-reported certification claims, not an independent comparison of television technologies. See LG’s release.
Is Micro RGB better than OLED?
There is no universal winner established by the available product information. OLED uses self-emissive pixels that can switch off individually, while Micro RGB uses a backlit LCD panel. That difference matters for how the displays produce dark scenes, but it does not settle which particular TV is better overall.

Is a Micro RGB TV good for movies?
The label alone cannot answer that. Movie performance depends on the specific TV’s dark-scene handling, brightness, glare control, viewing angle and picture processing, as well as the room and seating arrangement. Compare reviews and measurements for the exact regional model rather than treating a color-gamut claim as a complete picture-quality score.
