Metro Redux is not the same thing as Metro 2033 Redux. Metro Redux is the two-game collection. It holds Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux. Each of those two is also sold on its own. Check whether a listing names the bundle or just one game before you buy.

What each name means

Name on a listing What it is What you get
Metro 2033 Redux Redux edition of the first Metro game The first campaign, rebuilt in the later 4A Engine, with gameplay improvements carried over from Last Light. It has two play styles and Ranger Mode (PLAION Support).
Metro: Last Light Redux Redux edition of the sequel The Last Light campaign and all previously released DLC. It has two play styles and Ranger Mode. PLAION says the DLC adds 10 hours of bonus single-player content (PLAION Support).
Metro Redux The two-game collection Both complete campaigns and all previously released DLC, per the Nintendo UK Switch listing.

Don’t read “Metro 2033 Redux” as covering both games. The standalone product is one game. The bundle is the one that contains both. The Xbox store listing shows a Metro Redux Bundle that names both games.

How the two games differ

Story order

Metro 2033 is the first story, and Last Light is the sequel. 4A Games’ launch post calls Metro 2033 “the prequel” to Last Light.

What is in Last Light Redux

Last Light Redux includes every DLC released before it. PLAION puts those packs at 10 hours of bonus single-player content.

Play styles

Both games list the same modes:

  • Survival: slower and more survival-horror in tone.
  • Spartan: more action and combat focused.
  • Ranger Mode: removes the HUD/UI, makes combat deadlier and limits resources.

The modes are the same in name. How they feel still depends on each campaign.

Reading the hour counts

  • Nintendo’s Switch listing describes two complete campaigns plus a further 10 hours of bonus content, and calls the collection “50+ hours of gameplay.”
  • That 50+ figure is promotional wording from the publisher. It is not an independently measured completion time.
  • The 10-hour bonus figure appears in both PLAION’s Last Light Redux page and Nintendo’s bundle listing. It is most likely the same content, so don’t add the two together.

Checking a listing before you buy

  • Number of games: the bundle has two. A single Redux title has one.
  • Content: look for wording that names both games or mentions Last Light’s DLC.
  • Platform and format: 4A Games documented a PS4 retail double pack at launch on August 26, 2014. Nintendo sells a Switch download. Current physical stock and prices vary by retailer and region, so check a live listing.

The 4A Games launch post puts the bundle definition this way: “Metro Redux includes both Metro: Last Light and the prequel Metro 2033, which has never been available on a PlayStation console until now.”

What these sources don’t cover

The official pages establish the edition structure and the listed features. They are not a full inventory of every change from the original releases. The Nintendo listing cited here is the UK one, and offer details can differ by account region.
