Gen 3’s upgrades may be worth the higher announced starting price if those additions suit you, but the figures are launch prices from different dates—not a live comparison of what either model costs today.
How much do Gen 3 and Gen 2 cost?
Meta announced Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 at a US starting price of $449 on September 23, 2026. Gen 2 launched at $379 in the US on September 17, 2025. The $70 difference is between those announced starting prices; it does not establish the current street price of either generation. Check current local listings and the exact frame and lens configuration before comparing offers.

Prices also differ by market. Meta’s October 2026 India announcement lists Gen 3 from INR 44,300. That is a separate market price, not a currency-converted equivalent of the US price. Is Gen 3’s camera a major upgrade?
Not on video resolution alone: Meta specifies 3K Ultra HD video for both generations, so the cited announcements do not support a claim that Gen 3 raises video resolution over Gen 2. Gen 2’s announcement also specifies ultrawide HDR and up to 60 fps. Gen 3’s distinct capture feature in the announcement is dynamic photos, which lets you select a preferred frame. Meta lists a 12 MP camera for Gen 3.
What about battery charging and the case?
Meta says Gen 3 lasts up to nine hours. For Gen 2, Meta states up to eight hours of typical use, and its announcement says the included charging case provides an additional 48 hours of charging on the go and the glasses can charge to 50% in 20 minutes. The reviewed Gen 3 announcement does not give directly comparable case-capacity or charge-time figures, so it does not establish that Gen 3 improves those specifications.

Which frame styles are available?
Gen 3’s announcement lists Aviator, Zena and Wayfarer, with 27 color-and-lens combinations. Gen 2’s launch announcement lists Wayfarer, Skyler and Headliner. These are announced lineups, not a promise that every combination is sold in every country or remains in stock. Confirm the local listing, lens choice, prescription compatibility and fit before buying.
Meta says every generation has a built-in capture LED. Treat it as a notice light, not as a guarantee that recording is private, that everyone nearby has consented, or that every person will notice it.

Which generation makes more sense for you?
Choose Gen 3 if its additions matter to you
- You want the announced action button for quick access to Meta AI.
- Adjustable temple tips may help you find a more suitable fit.
- You expect to use dynamic photos or value Meta’s claimed battery increase.
- A Gen 3 frame and lens configuration you want is available at a price you consider worthwhile.
Consider Gen 2 if the current price is lower and its features suffice
- You mainly want the advertised 3K video, which Meta also lists for Gen 2.
- You find a Gen 2 configuration at a current price that better fits your budget.
- You value the Gen 2 announcement’s stated charging-case capacity and charge-time details; a comparable Gen 3 figure is not provided in the reviewed announcement.
These are manufacturer-announced specifications, not independent comparative tests of battery life, camera output, fit or microphone performance. In particular, Meta’s more-than-90% background-noise-reduction figure is a company claim; the cited announcement does not explain an independent test method.
