Your Meta Quest USB-C port can connect the headset to a PC for wired Link, transfer recordings and files, and support developer workflows such as testing apps. It also charges the headset. Which data tasks work depends on using a compatible, data-capable cable and following the setup for that task; the port is not a promise of compatibility with every USB accessory.
1. Connect to a PC for wired Meta Quest Link
A USB-C connection lets supported headsets use Meta Quest Link for wired PC VR. Meta’s Link guidance covers Quest 3, Quest 3S, Quest 2, and Quest Pro; the experience also depends on compatible PC software, the cable, and connection quality. See Meta’s Link cable and PC requirements.

For Color Passthrough over Link, Meta specifies at least 2 Gbps of effective bandwidth. That threshold applies to this feature, not to every USB task or every cable use. Choose a cable compatible with your headset and PC, and check that it supports the bandwidth required for your intended Link experience.

Connect the headset to a computer to access in-headset data and copy recordings. Meta’s guidance also describes using Meta Quest Developer Hub (MQDH) File Manager to access USB storage and move recorded video. Follow Meta’s instructions for capturing and transferring footage for the applicable computer workflow.

A data-capable USB-C cable is needed for computer data tasks; a cable that only charges the headset will not transfer files. The steps and available options can depend on the headset software and the computer workflow you choose.
3. Connect the headset to developer tools
Developers can use the USB data connection with Meta’s development tools. Meta’s setup guidance calls for a USB-C data cable, Developer Mode, MTP Notification enabled in the headset’s Developer settings, and approval of USB debugging when prompted. These settings support development workflows; they are not requirements for every ordinary file transfer.

- Connect the headset to the computer with a USB-C data cable.
- Enable Developer Mode and turn on MTP Notification in the headset’s Developer settings, following Meta Quest Developer Hub setup instructions.
- When the headset prompts you, approve USB debugging for the connected computer.
4. Deploy or test apps from a computer
After developer setup, Meta’s instructions describe selecting the connected headset in Android Studio and running an app on it. This is a developer workflow for deploying and testing an app on a connected device; it does not guarantee that every user can install any app through USB or that every configuration is supported. 5. Capture and export footage through a computer workflow
The USB connection can be part of a computer-based workflow for capturing or exporting footage. Meta documents transferring recordings and using MQDH capture and file-management options. The headset’s USB port does not record video by itself: capture depends on Meta software and a compatible computer connection. What to check before choosing a cable
- Data capability: For developer connections and file workflows, use a cable that carries data, not one that only charges. Meta states in its “Test your app on your device” instructions, updated August 24, 2026: “A charge-only cable does not work.” The statement concerns the developer connection workflow. See Meta’s device testing instructions.
- Headset and PC compatibility: Verify the cable and Link setup for your exact headset and computer. Meta’s cited Link guidance lists Quest 3, Quest 3S, Quest 2, and Quest Pro; do not assume the same guidance covers other devices.
- Bandwidth for the intended feature: Color Passthrough over Link has a published effective-bandwidth threshold of at least 2 Gbps. Do not treat that as a universal requirement for file transfer or every other use.
- Length and connector fit: Choose a length and connector arrangement that works with your PC and headset placement, while meeting the requirements of the task.
Charging is a separate use
The USB-C port also charges the headset. Charging and data are different functions: a charge-only cable may provide power but will not meet the data requirement for the developer connection described above. The cited guidance does not establish model-specific charging wattage or charge-speed figures.
