Choose based on the hardware you already own and the games you want to play. Meta Quest 3 runs supported VR and mixed-reality apps on the headset itself, and can also connect to a PC. PlayStation VR2 is primarily a PS5 headset; it can connect to a Windows PC through Sony’s separate PC adapter, but PC play has fewer features than PS5 play. If you have neither a PS5 nor a capable gaming PC, Quest 3 is the more self-contained starting point. If you already own a PS5 and want its compatible VR games, PS VR2 may fit better.

Should I get Quest 3 or PS VR2 if I already own a PS5?
If your main reason to buy VR is playing PS VR2-compatible titles on the PS5 you already own, PS VR2 is the direct fit: it connects to the console with one USB-C cable and is designed around that game library. Check the individual game listing rather than assuming every PlayStation VR game works. Sony says original PlayStation VR games are not compatible with PS VR2, and its compatibility page identifies each PS VR2 title’s supported play styles.

Quest 3 can still make sense for a PS5 owner who wants a headset that works independently, values color passthrough and mixed-reality apps, or also wants a PC VR option. It does not replace PS VR2 access to PS5 VR games. Compare the cost of the headset and any hardware you still need, not just the headset price: the inspected official sources list Quest 3 at a US starting price of $599.99, while they do not establish a current PS VR2 US price. Regional prices, bundles and stock can change. Check Meta’s current Quest family page and local checkout prices before deciding.

Can I use PS VR2 without a PS5?
Yes, but not as a standalone headset. Sony supports a separate Windows PC route that uses Steam VR games. That is a different setup from connecting PS VR2 to a PS5, and it does not preserve all PS5 features.
What do I need to use PS VR2 on PC?
- A Windows PC that meets the requirements for the games and Steam VR setup you intend to use.
- Sony’s PS VR2 PC adapter.
- A separately sold DisplayPort 1.4 cable and a USB 3.0 Type-A connection for the adapter.
- Bluetooth for pairing the Sense controllers; Sony notes that a separate Bluetooth adapter may be needed if the PC lacks Bluetooth, and that not every Bluetooth adapter works properly.
- Steam VR games. Sony distinguishes this PC selection from the PS VR2 games available on PS5.

Which PS VR2 features are missing on PC?
Sony lists HDR output, eye tracking, headset feedback, adaptive triggers and Sense controller haptic feedback as unsupported on PC. Basic controller vibration remains. Can Quest 3 play PC VR games?
Yes. Meta lists PC VR support through Quest Link, either by cable or Air Link. That gives Quest 3 two roles: it can run supported apps on its own, or connect to a PC for PC VR. The quality and practicality of a wireless PC connection depend on the PC and network setup, so do not assume Air Link will suit every home. Check the specific game’s platform, PC requirements and connection needs.

PS VR2’s PC route is more equipment-specific: it requires Sony’s adapter and a DisplayPort 1.4 cable, and it uses Steam VR. A PC-first buyer should compare the exact games and hardware needed for each route rather than choosing by headset specifications alone.
How do the displays and day-to-day experience differ?
Meta’s device comparison lists Quest 3’s LCD panel at 2064 × 2208 pixels per eye and a refresh rate up to 120 Hz. Sony lists PS VR2’s OLED panel at 2000 × 2040 pixels per eye, with a 90–120 Hz range. Both manufacturers list a field of view of about 110° horizontally. Panel technology and resolution are useful specifications, but they do not by themselves establish a universal visual preference.

Quest 3 is wireless during standalone use and includes color stereoscopic passthrough with a depth sensor, which supports mixed-reality experiences. Meta estimates approximately two hours of battery life; this is the manufacturer’s estimate, not a guaranteed runtime or an independent test result, and actual use can vary. PS VR2’s PS5 connection is wired. Choose according to whether you would rather manage a headset battery and have standalone freedom, or accept a console cable and avoid relying on the headset’s standalone battery for play.
Will the headset fit my room and games?
Check the play style of the specific title before buying. Sony categorizes PS VR2 games as sitting, standing or room-scale. Room-scale PS VR2 titles require at least 2m × 2m (6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in), but a title that supports sitting or standing may suit a smaller clear area. Sony advises checking each game’s PlayStation Store compatibility notes.

Meta lists a minimum 6.5 ft × 6.5 ft space for Quest 3 stationary or room-scale play. That is not a promise that every Quest game needs exactly that area: requirements depend on the app and play style. Clear the space of furniture, pets and trip hazards, and use the game’s own boundary and space guidance.

How should I compare the total cost?
Meta’s US product page lists Quest 3 starting at $599.99. Treat that as Meta’s listed starting price, not a complete-system total: configuration, optional accessories, offers and availability can change. The official sources inspected here do not establish a current PS VR2 US price, so compare live prices in your region rather than relying on an unverified figure.
