You can add a payment method in a supported app and use it for eligible checkouts, donations, purchases or, in some places, payments to other people. The available apps, payment methods and actions depend on your country and the specific transaction; Meta Pay is not a separate app to download.
What is Meta Pay?
Meta describes Meta Pay as a way to pay in apps people already use. It can save payment details for eligible purchases and payment flows across Meta services, as well as at online stores that offer Meta Pay at checkout. The service is not a single universal wallet feature: what you can do with it depends on the app, country and transaction.

Meta’s current product page lists credit cards, debit cards and PayPal as examples of payment methods. A Meta announcement from June 2022 also named Shop Pay, but that historical list does not establish that it is available in every current checkout or region. Check the payment options shown in your Meta Pay settings or at the merchant’s checkout.

You add a payment method in a supported Meta app, then select Meta Pay when it appears in an eligible checkout or payment flow. Meta says saved payment, shipping and contact details can make checkout quicker after you verify your login. You do not need a separate Meta Pay app.

Meta says setup can be connected across Facebook and Instagram, so you may not need to enter payment details again in each. Payment methods can be updated in Meta Pay settings, and transaction activity across connected apps can be viewed in Accounts Center. Menus can change, so use the current payment settings and Accounts Center in your app rather than relying on a fixed sequence of taps.
Where can you use Meta Pay?
Meta lists different uses across its services. Its product page describes shopping, donations, event-ticket or game purchases on Facebook; shopping and donations to charitable or personal fundraisers on Instagram; and sending money to friends and family in Messenger in the United States. Participating online stores may also offer Meta Pay. Meta cautions that not every use is available everywhere.
For country-level availability, consult Meta’s live availability page, which indicates supported apps by country. A country appearing on the list does not mean every feature, payment method or merchant checkout is available there. Confirm that the specific app and transaction you want are supported.

Meta’s June 2022 launch announcement described a broader rollout and said the service enabled people and businesses in over 160 countries to make payments in 55 currencies at that time. That is a historical company statement, not a current measure of availability; use the live country list and the payment options offered in your app for present-day decisions.
Do you need a Facebook account to use Meta Pay?
Meta’s product page describes setup through Facebook, Instagram or Messenger and notes that payment setup can connect across Facebook and Instagram. The available options depend on the app and country. The sources do not establish a universal account requirement for every Meta Pay use, so check the specific app’s current setup flow rather than assuming that access to one Meta app automatically enables all others.
Is it secure to make payments with Meta Pay?
Meta calls Meta Pay “an easy, secure way to pay on the apps you already use.” That is the company’s description, not an independent guarantee against fraud or loss. Meta says card numbers are encrypted and stored separately from profile data, and that anti-fraud technology monitors for unauthorized activity. It also says it may send notifications about unusual activity.

- Pay one transparent rate per swipe for Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express.
- Works in conjunction with most downloadable Square point-of-sale apps on your device. Customers can pay, tip and sign directly on your device. Track payments in cash, gift cards and more. Also lets you send receipts via e-mail or text message, makes it easy to apply discounts, keeps a data and sales history log and more.
- Accepts magstripe credit card payments, including those from Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express (fees apply).
- App sends deposits to your bank account within 1 to 2 business days, or enjoy instant deposits (fees apply).
Meta says extra authentication is available in supported situations. A Meta Pay PIN may be requested before some purchases and can be configured in payment settings for additional security when sending payments. Depending on the device and flow, fingerprint or face recognition may also be available. Meta says it does not receive or store device biometric information. These checks are conditional, not requirements for every payment.

How do you set up a Meta Pay PIN?
Open Meta Pay or payment settings in the supported Meta app and look for the PIN option. Meta says a PIN can add security when sending payments, and that it may request a PIN before some purchases. The exact menu labels and availability can vary, so follow the current in-app instructions. If the option is not shown, it may not be available for that app, account or location.
How do you manage transactions or get help?
Use Accounts Center to review payment activity across connected apps, and check the relevant Meta Pay settings when you need to update a payment method. If a charge appears on your bank account that you do not recognize, compare it with your Meta Pay transaction history and contact Meta through the official support path for that transaction. Meta advertises live chat and email support, including for unauthorized-charge questions.
Do not assume that contacting Meta guarantees a refund or a particular resolution. The applicable dispute process and rights can depend on the transaction and country; contact your bank or card issuer as appropriate. For privacy questions, consult Meta’s current Payments Privacy Policy. The available product information does not establish a complete, current account of transaction-data retention or use across all products and regions.
Quick Recap
What to check before paying
- Confirm that Meta Pay appears in the app or merchant checkout you plan to use.
- Check that your country and the specific payment activity are supported; country-level availability alone does not confirm feature eligibility.
- Review the funding methods currently offered in that checkout instead of assuming a method listed by Meta works everywhere.
- Know where to review activity in Accounts Center and how to reach official support if a transaction looks wrong.
- Enable an available PIN or device authentication option if it suits your use, while remembering that Meta describes these controls as conditional.
