To send a file to someone, create a MEGA share link; to work with others in a folder, use MEGA’s separate folder-sharing option. A link can let anyone who has it view and download the data, so treat both the link and any decryption key as sensitive access credentials.
Choose the sharing method that fits

These actions and labels appear in MEGA’s web-client English localization. The localization confirms that the controls exist, but it does not document every current screen or the full effect of every permission.

Send a file or folder with a share link
- In MEGA, select the file or folder you want to share and choose the share-link action. The wording may vary by client or screen; the web client’s documented label is “Share link.”
- Review the link settings shown in your account. If available, consider password protection or an expiry date, particularly for sensitive or time-limited sharing.
- Copy the generated link. MEGA’s interface provides a decryption-key field and an option to send the key separately. If you send the key separately, use a different channel from the link where practical.
- Tell the recipient whether they need the key and how to use it. MEGA’s warning is explicit: “Anyone with this link can view and download your data.”
Do not assume password protection or expiry is available on every account or plan. Check your current MEGA screen and official help for eligibility; it is not established by the available product documentation.
Share a folder for collaboration
- Select the folder and choose “Share folder.”
- Review the permission choices displayed for your account and select the least access needed for each collaborator.
- Invite the intended collaborators using the options presented in the current client, then confirm that they can access only what you intended to share.
The web-client localization includes a “Read and write” permission label, but does not establish a complete permission matrix or the precise effects of every choice. Use the current selector’s descriptions rather than assuming permissions based on their names.

Limit or end access
If the link settings in your account offer an expiry date, set one when access should be temporary. The client also includes a remove-link action. Removing a link can revoke that link, but it cannot retrieve files recipients have already downloaded. For sensitive data, consider what copies may remain with recipients before sharing.
Use MEGAcmd if you prefer the command line
MEGAcmd offers command-line import and export workflows. Its User Guide includes an example that uploads a file and exports a link set to expire after 10 minutes. That is an example command, not a general default or a statement about the web or mobile interface. Follow the guide’s command syntax and verify the exported link and expiry before sending it.

Check current account details before relying on a feature
Interface controls, plan eligibility, pricing, storage and transfer limits can change. Confirm the options available in your MEGA account and consult the current MEGA Help Centre for details that affect your intended use. The cited web-client localization establishes the presence of link, key, password, expiry, remove-link and folder-sharing controls, but not their availability on every plan or in every region.
