You can use FFmpeg to loop a bhajan video into MediaMTX, then configure MediaMTX to forward that live feed to YouTube over RTMPS. The setup needs a compatible audio-and-video source, the current YouTube ingest URL and a private stream key. It does not, by itself, guarantee uninterrupted streaming or a complete YouTube replay: monitor the feed, plan recovery and record locally if the archive matters.
How the setup works
FFmpeg reads and loops your media file in real time, publishing it to a MediaMTX path. MediaMTX then forwards that path to YouTube’s ingest server. This separates file playback from delivery to YouTube, but introduces two processes and two network connections to monitor.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Source: a bhajan recording with compatible audio and video streams.
- Publisher: FFmpeg sends the file to a MediaMTX path, using RTSP as the documented publishing method.
- Forwarder: MediaMTX sends the path to YouTube using the current RTMPS ingest URL and your stream key.
- Destination: YouTube Live Control Room receives and previews the stream.
MediaMTX is a live media server and proxy that can publish, read, forward, record and play back real-time audio and video. Its documentation shows both RTSP and RTMP publishing with FFmpeg. The examples below are documentation examples, not a tested bhajan playlist or a guarantee that every file loops seamlessly. See the MediaMTX introduction and FFmpeg publishing guide.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Before you start
- Choose recordings and compositions you have the right to broadcast. A technical setup cannot establish whether a particular recording or composition is cleared for your use.
- Install FFmpeg and MediaMTX on a machine that can remain online and sustain the required upload traffic. The process runs wherever you host it; a home computer must stay on, while a hosted machine still needs monitoring and recovery planning.
- Have access to your YouTube channel’s Live Control Room and obtain the current ingest URL and stream key there. Do not rely on an old hard-coded URL copied from a tutorial.
- Make sure the source has both a video and an audio track. MediaMTX warns that YouTube silently rejects video-only streams.
- Test with representative audio and motion before scheduling the channel as public.

ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i file.mp4 -c copy -f rtsp rtsp://localhost:8554/mystream
Replace file.mp4 with the path to your source. -re paces file input in real time rather than sending it as fast as the file can be read; -stream_loop -1 requests infinite looping; and -c copy passes through the existing audio and video without re-encoding. Stream-copying avoids an encoding step, but it depends on the source streams being usable by the next parts of your workflow. Inspect the file and test the resulting feed rather than assuming any media file will work.
RTMP alternative
The MediaMTX guide also documents publishing to its RTMP listener:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i file.mp4 -c copy -f flv rtmp://localhost:1935/mystream
Use the protocol and listener that match your MediaMTX configuration. The RTSP example is the guide’s recommended publishing method; neither command is a pre-built playlist manager or an uptime guarantee.

Configure MediaMTX to forward to YouTube
In the MediaMTX configuration, forward the path to YouTube’s RTMPS destination. The documented configuration shape is:
paths:
mypath:
forward:
- dest: rtmps://CURRENT_YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL#STREAM_KEY
Replace the illustrative ingest URL and key with the values from your channel’s Live Control Room. Confirm the current URL there: MediaMTX explicitly cautions that the endpoint in its example may have changed. The path name in the configuration must correspond to the path receiving your FFmpeg publication. Consult the MediaMTX forwarding guide for configuration details.
Protect the stream key
Treat the stream key like a password. Do not place it in a public repository, screenshot, tutorial or publicly accessible configuration. If you believe it has been exposed, reset it in YouTube Live Control Room before continuing. YouTube’s live streaming settings explain the channel-side controls.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Set and check the encoder output
Use YouTube’s current encoder recommendations as the compatibility baseline, then choose settings suited to the source and available upload bandwidth. YouTube’s guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; CBR bitrate encoding; and frame rates up to 60 fps. Its recommended keyframe interval is 2 seconds, and it says not to exceed 4 seconds. For stereo audio, its advanced recommendations specify 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps.
YouTube publishes bitrate ranges by codec, resolution and frame rate; select the applicable range from its encoder settings rather than guessing. Keep the chosen output within the sustained capacity of the upload connection. The source material reviewed here does not specify a special bhajan preset.

A devotional visual that barely changes still needs a valid video track as well as audio. Do not assume that an audio-only stream or a static image will be accepted as configured: verify the actual encoded output and check that YouTube Live Control Room shows a healthy preview with both tracks.
Test before making the channel continuous
- Start MediaMTX and publish a representative file from FFmpeg to the intended path.
- Confirm MediaMTX is receiving the path and forwarding it to the current YouTube RTMPS destination.
- Open the YouTube Live Control Room preview. Check that both video and audio arrive and that the stream health messages show no unresolved issue.
- Listen for clean audio and inspect the picture. Use a test with audio and motion similar to the intended broadcast, as YouTube advises.
- Run a restart or failover test and verify the channel becomes accessible again after recovery.
- If you need a replay, independently record locally and check that the file grows and remains playable.
During operation, monitor the output, connection and audio/video quality. YouTube’s livestreaming tips recommend checking local archive growth and integrity, testing failover, confirming event accessibility and monitoring stream quality.

A continuous live broadcast does not mean YouTube will provide a complete 24-hour archive. If you need a replay, arrange and verify your own local recording and retention instead of relying on the YouTube archive. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

DVR lets viewers pause and rewind during a live stream when enabled, but YouTube warns that rewind may be limited or unavailable for very long streams, including those longer than 12 hours. Enabling DVR does not remove that limitation. Details are in YouTube’s live settings and DVR guidance.
Troubleshooting
YouTube does not show a healthy preview
- Check both tracks: verify the MediaMTX path carries audio and video. A video-only feed may be silently rejected by YouTube.
- Check the destination: copy the current ingest URL from Live Control Room and confirm the RTMPS destination and stream key are correct.
- Check encoder settings: compare codec, bitrate, frame rate and keyframe interval with YouTube’s current guidance, and inspect Live Control Room messages.
FFmpeg cannot publish to the MediaMTX path
- Confirm MediaMTX is running, the configured listener accepts the chosen protocol, and the host, port and path in the FFmpeg command match that configuration.
- Check that the input file exists and contains the expected audio and video streams. A stream-copy command does not convert incompatible media.
The loop stops or playback has a gap
- Confirm FFmpeg is still running and that
-stream_loop -1and-reare present in the command. - Inspect the source file and test its loop boundary. The documented command does not guarantee a seamless transition between the end and beginning of arbitrary media.
- Check the server’s network and process health, then test the recovery procedure rather than assuming a process will restart itself.
The feed drops after it was working
- Check the MediaMTX-to-YouTube connection, the current ingest endpoint and Live Control Room stream health.
- Plan how to restart or fail over both the publishing and forwarding parts of the chain. Keep a local recording if preserving the program matters.
The YouTube replay is missing or incomplete
For a stream longer than 12 hours, automatic archiving is not assured. Check your independently recorded local file and its integrity; do not treat DVR availability as a substitute for an archive.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuous YouTube channel rather than managing a server, FFmpeg process and forwarding configuration, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once and go live; StreamNeo loops it from the cloud, so no computer or home connection has to stay on.
- One flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps; no re-encode or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card, one free day per account.
- Monthly: $9.99 per month.
It streams to YouTube and plays uploaded videos; it is not a camera-based live broadcast. To try the cloud workflow, start your free first day with StreamNeo.
