mdjango is a Django-based documentation engine that its author says can serve Markdown files from a directory as a documentation site, with restrained default styling, client-side fuzzy search, and automatic llms.txt and llms-full.txt output. It may suit a project that wants documentation integrated with Django rather than maintained as a separate static site. The announced release was v0.1.0, and its author cautioned that it had rough edges.
What mdjango does
In a Django community announcement, mdjango’s author describes a documentation engine that reads Markdown files from a directory and serves them as a site. The author says the project’s own documentation is a demo built with mdjango. This makes the package relevant when documentation needs to live alongside a Django application or benefit from dynamic behavior that the project’s maintainers found frustrating to add to a static-site workflow.

The announcement is a feature description, not an independent review or installation guide. It does not establish the package’s current compatibility requirements, full setup steps, supported Markdown features, or maintenance status. Check the project’s GitHub repository, PyPI listing, and documentation for current details before adopting it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHow the site is presented and searched
The author describes mdjango as intentionally opinionated: it aims to provide useful defaults while limiting styling controls. That trade-off may appeal to a team that wants documentation working without building a theme, but it may be a poor fit if exact visual customization is a requirement.

For search, the author says mdjango includes MiniSearch.js for client-side typo-tolerant fuzzy search across the documentation. That is a product claim from the announcement; it does not include independent search-quality, speed, or usability measurements.
What “LLM-ready” means here
The author says mdjango automatically generates two files: llms.txt and llms-full.txt. In a Django community discussion, participants describe llms.txt as a compact index with curated links and llms-full.txt as a fuller context document. In practical terms, these are intended to make documentation easier for compatible tools to discover or use as reference material.

That is not evidence that a particular AI assistant reads these files, that publishing them improves search rankings, or that they improve model training or answer accuracy. The discussion itself raises questions about tool support and how to determine whether the format provides value. Treat the exports as a convenient publishing feature, not a guaranteed AI benefit. See the Django community discussion of llms.txt for the range of views.

Who should consider it—and what to check first
mdjango is worth investigating if your team already uses Django, wants Markdown-authored documentation served within that project, and prefers a ready-made design and search over extensive customization. A static documentation generator may remain a better fit if documentation is independent of the Django application or if the team needs a highly tailored theme and workflow.

- Build Quality: Solid ABS shell and well made components in one place make it strong and convenient to travel
- Programming Lessons: This raspberry pi 5 learning kit ships with step by step instructions and provides 21 lessons to take you through identifying components reading code and running it in the terminal
The announcement labels the release v0.1.0 and says, “It’s v0.1.0 so expect some rough edges.” That is the author’s version and maturity statement in the 2026 announcement, not confirmation of the package’s current release. Before depending on it, verify the current release and inspect its documentation and repository for supported Django and Python versions, installation and URL configuration, Markdown behavior, theme options, search indexing, export generation, and recent maintenance.
Do not assume requirements from similarly named tools apply. For example, django-llms-txt is a separate package; its listed Python and Django requirements describe that project, not mdjango. Likewise, Django’s optional django.contrib.sites framework is not identified in mdjango’s announcement as a dependency. The Django 4.2 documentation for the sites framework describes its setup, but it should not be added to an mdjango installation by assumption.

How mdjango compares with a separate static docs site
| Decision point | mdjango, as announced | Separate static documentation site |
|---|---|---|
| Authoring | Markdown files in a directory | Not specified in the mdjango announcement; depends on the chosen generator |
| Integration | Designed to serve documentation through Django | Separate from the Django project unless integrated by the team |
| Search | Author says MiniSearch.js provides client-side fuzzy search | Depends on the chosen generator and configuration |
| Visual control | Restrained defaults and deliberately limited styling controls, according to the author | Depends on the chosen generator and theme |
| LLM-facing exports | Author says llms.txt and llms-full.txt are generated automatically |
Not established; depends on the chosen generator or workflow |
| Compatibility and maintenance | Current status and requirements not established by the announcement | Depends on the chosen project and its current documentation |
The comparison is about the announced approach, not a benchmark. The discussion and announcement provide no measured performance, adoption, or AI-answer improvement figures.
