Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) councillor Ashish Gupta, who represents Ward 27, was elected unopposed to the corporation’s Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) at the House meeting on October 1, 2026. The House also approved proposed sanitation and sewer-maintenance resources and steps to protect 272 acres in Ward 21. The decisions were reported as approvals and plans; the available coverage does not establish that resources have been deployed or land recovered.

Who is Ashish Gupta, and which committee did he join?

Gupta is the councillor for Ward 27. He was elected unopposed to the F&CC during the October 1 general meeting, chaired by Mayor Raj Rani Malhotra. The seat had opened after Anoop Singh became deputy mayor and left his elected councillor-member position on the committee. Hindustan Times and The Times of India reported the election.

What does the Finance and Contract Committee do?

Hindustan Times describes the F&CC as a six-member committee: the mayor, two deputy mayors, two councillors elected by councillors, and the municipal commissioner. The reports attribute this composition to the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994. The Times of India says the committee has responsibilities relating to corporation contracts and purchases. In practical terms, Gupta has joined a panel with financial and contract responsibilities; the reports do not establish a broader remit.

What sanitation resources did the House approve?

The reported decision calls for additional waste-lifting and cleaning capacity in each ward:

  • 50 sanitation workers per ward for waste lifting, cleaning and special sanitation drives.
  • Three tractor-trolleys per ward for sanitation work.

The Times of India also reported an outsourcing resolution for 1,800 additional workers and 108 tractor-trolleys citywide. These are figures reported for the House decision, not confirmed counts of staff or vehicles already working on the ground. Mayor Raj Rani Malhotra was quoted as saying the shortage of sanitation manpower had become a serious operational issue and that the resources needed to be visible in wards. The report does not provide a deployment schedule or attendance data.

Which machines are planned for sewer maintenance?

The House decision was reported as an allocation of one jetting machine per ward and one super-sucker machine for every two wards. The machines are intended to clear sewer lines, silt and blockages. The reports describe an allocation decision, but do not state when machines will be delivered or deployed.

What will happen to the 272 acres in Ward 21?

MCG plans to demarcate 272 acres in Ward 21, remove encroachments and take possession of the land. A boundary wall is also planned to discourage renewed encroachment. The reported sequence matters: demarcation is to precede encroachment action and possession. The coverage reviewed does not verify that demarcation, clearance, possession or wall construction has been completed.

What other public-land decision did the House make?

The House also decided to clear encroachments from rights-of-way intended for roads and other public purposes. The report provides no locations, implementation schedule or update showing that clearance has begun.

What is approved, and what remains unverified?

The coverage describes House decisions and intended actions, not proof of implementation. The distinction is important for judging their effect on daily services and public land:

Decision reported What the reports establish What they do not establish
Sanitation staffing and vehicles 50 workers and three tractor-trolleys per ward; The Times of India also reports 1,800 workers and 108 tractor-trolleys citywide. Actual staffing, attendance, vehicle deployment or start date.
Sewer-maintenance machines One jetting machine per ward and one super-sucker per two wards. Delivery timetable or operational deployment.
Ward 21 land Plans to demarcate 272 acres, remove encroachments, take possession and build a boundary wall. Completed demarcation, clearance, possession or wall construction.
Rights-of-way A decision to clear encroachments on rights-of-way for roads and other public purposes. Locations, schedule or completed clearance.

The available event details come from news reports; the MCG website page reviewed did not surface the October 1 meeting minutes or resolution text. The reports do not establish a resolution number, budget, contractor or deployment date.
