The comparison is part of his argument about consistency; the report does not establish that the cases involved equivalent circumstances or resolve the allegations in either case.
What principle did Harpreet Singh invoke?
Harpreet Singh argued that a jathedar serves the Akal Takht and should not be equated with the institution itself. He called for decisions that, in his view, protect the institution’s sanctity and authority. This is his stated principle, rather than an independently established account of the institution’s rules.

He also raised an incident at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib. As the report recounts his account, two elected SGPC members met the chief minister over the issue and were later criticized, despite seeking answers on behalf of the Sikh community.
What is the background to the December 2024 directive?
Earlier coverage provides context but does not verify the current complaint. The Indian Express reported in February 2025 on the December 2, 2024 pronouncement, the controversy surrounding it, and Harpreet Singh’s removal from his jathedar post at Takht Damdama Sahib. Its December 2024 coverage also reported on his response to allegations amid Akal Takht directions concerning the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
