To update a Mazda infotainment system, first identify whether you need Mazda Connect software, navigation maps, or Gracenote music information. For supported Mazda Connect systems, check for software in the vehicle under Settings → System → Software Update. Map and Gracenote updates use separate procedures, and some software updates require dealer service.
First, identify what you want to update
“Infotainment update” can mean three different things. Choose the one that matches your goal before downloading anything or changing a card:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Mazda Connect software: The vehicle’s infotainment system software. Supported systems may check for and install updates online through the car.
- Navigation maps: Map data for vehicles equipped with the applicable navigation system. Some Mazda systems use an SD card and Mazda Update Toolbox; availability depends on the vehicle.
- Gracenote: Music metadata and album-art information. Mazda provides a separate USB update process; this does not update core infotainment software.
Adding Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is a separate matter, not a guaranteed result of a software update. Mazda USA says dealer-installed integration may be available for applicable model-year 2014-or-newer vehicles equipped with Mazda Connect; confirm eligibility for the exact vehicle with a Mazda dealer. Mazda USA’s compatibility FAQ describes the qualification.
Find the support instructions for your exact Mazda
Start at Mazda USA’s Mazda Connect and Navigation support page. Select the system and model-year listing that matches your vehicle, then consult its owner’s manual. The U.S. listings include separate routes for Mazda Connect and older Mazda Navigation systems; they are not a compatibility guide for other markets. Model year alone may not establish the right procedure: confirm the head unit, trim, navigation equipment, and region.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Do not install a firmware file intended for a different model, year, system, or market. Mazda’s support page also identifies vehicle-specific map support; some listed newer vehicles have no map updates available and offer Navi Map SD Card replacement only. Check the matching listing before buying a card.
Check for Mazda Connect software from the vehicle
For systems covered by Mazda’s Connected Service manual, use the car’s online update function rather than treating a USB drive as a universal firmware installer.

- With the vehicle safely parked, open Settings → System → Software Update on the infotainment display. Menu labels and behavior can differ by model.
- Choose Check for Software Updates, or enable automatic update checks if that option is available.
- If the vehicle offers an update, review the prompt, accept its terms, and follow the display instructions to download and install it.
- When installation finishes, switch vehicle power off and restart as directed so the software can take effect.
Mazda’s Connected Service Manual says an online update may continue in the background and may resume after power is switched back on if interrupted. An online check does not guarantee that an update is available, and Mazda states: “Online Update cannot handle some updates. In this case, it is necessary to have a dealer do the update.” Follow the instructions shown by your vehicle if they differ from these general steps.
Model-specific example: 2026 CX-5
The 2026 CX-5 manual describes software delivered through the onboard communication unit and wireless communications, with activation steps involving Park and switching vehicle power off. That procedure is specific to the 2026 CX-5 and should not be assumed to apply to other Mazda models. See the 2026 Mazda CX-5 owner’s manual section on Software Update.

Update navigation maps on supported SD-card systems
Map data is separate from Mazda Connect software. For the SD-card navigation system covered by Mazda’s manual, check the map version in the navigation system’s system-information or version-information menus. Use Mazda Update Toolbox for the applicable map update, and back up the SD card first: Mazda warns that map data may be lost if an update problem occurs.
- Use the SD card only as instructed for the vehicle; do not store unrelated data on it.
- Do not use the card in another vehicle.
- Check the vehicle-specific listing on Mazda’s support page before purchasing a replacement card. The available procedure and card are not universal, and the sources do not establish one update schedule for all vehicles.
See Mazda’s Mazda Connect owner’s manual instructions for updating map data on an SD card and the applicable model listing on the Mazda Connect and Navigation support page.

Update Gracenote music information over USB
Use this route only if you want to refresh music information or album art. Mazda’s Gracenote update instructions call for a computer and USB memory with at least 1 GB of free space. Download the package for the correct region, put the file at the top level of the USB drive, and safely remove the drive from the computer.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Mazda lists regional packages on its Gracenote page; use the package corresponding to the vehicle’s region. The page shows a posting dated February 17, 2026, which is not a universal firmware version or an indication that every Mazda needs an update.

When to contact a Mazda dealer
Arrange dealer help if the vehicle says an update requires service, the matching instructions are unclear, or an online update is not offered for the update you need. A dealer can also confirm vehicle-specific navigation support or whether a CarPlay/Android Auto retrofit applies. Do not infer that an update is available just because a different model or year has one.
