To turn off Do Not Disturb (DND) on most Galaxy phones, open Quick settings and tap the Do not disturb tile. That toggles the feature off, and calls, messages and app alerts start coming through again. If the tile is missing or the panel gesture works differently on your phone, open Settings, search for “Do not disturb,” and switch it off there. Samsung’s support documentation describes both routes, and it notes that screens and settings vary by wireless carrier, software version and phone model.
Turn off Do Not Disturb from Quick settings
This is the fastest route on most Galaxy devices. Samsung’s US support guide for Do Not Disturb describes the following sequence.

- Open the Quick settings panel. Samsung’s US guide describes swiping down from the top of the screen with two fingers.
- Find the Do not disturb icon and tap it. Tapping it toggles the feature off.
- Confirm that the Do not disturb icon is no longer highlighted in the panel, then check whether incoming alerts appear as expected.
If you cannot find the tile, your Quick settings layout may have been edited or may differ from the example. Samsung’s Quick settings customization guide explains how to rearrange the tiles, so the Do not disturb tile can be moved into view.

Searching is more reliable than hunting through menus, because Samsung’s menu labels and locations change between One UI versions.
Why the Quick settings gesture differs between phones
The panel you open with a swipe depends on the One UI version your phone runs. Samsung Canada’s current guidance on the Quick settings panel draws this distinction:

| Software layout | How to open Quick settings | Notifications panel |
|---|---|---|
| One UI 7.0 (newer Galaxy devices) | Swipe from the top right of the screen | Separate from Quick settings |
| One UI 6.1.1 or lower | Swipe down from the top of the screen | Shares the same panel as Quick settings |
Samsung presents this as the typical layout for each version rather than a guarantee for every model. If your phone does not match either row, rely on the Settings search method above.

If Do Not Disturb turns itself back on
DND can switch on again without any action on your part because of schedules. Samsung’s guide documents that you can set more than one schedule, and each one can turn the feature on automatically.

- Open Settings, search for Do not disturb, and select it.
- Review the schedules listed under the feature. Look for entries under Add schedule or those set to Turn on as scheduled.
- Switch off the individual schedule you do not want. Samsung says each schedule can be toggled off on its own, so you do not need to disable every one.
Keep Do Not Disturb on but allow certain alerts
If you want quiet hours without missing everything, DND includes exceptions. Samsung’s guide lists three categories you can allow through while the feature stays on:
- Calls and messages
- App notifications
- Alarms and sounds
This approach suits readers who only need fewer interruptions rather than a complete silence of their phone.

When notifications are still missing after turning DND off
Turning off Do Not Disturb does not always restore every alert. Samsung’s troubleshooting guide for apps that are not sending notifications lists several checks in addition to DND:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Do Not Disturb: confirm that it is off, as described above.
- Power saving: Samsung identifies Power saving mode as another possible cause of blocked notifications. Turn it off temporarily to test whether alerts return.
- App notification settings: the app itself may have notifications switched off, so check its notification settings within the phone’s Settings.
If none of these fixes the problem, follow the steps in Samsung’s troubleshooting guide. DND is a common cause of missing alerts, but it is not the only one.

Version and region notes
The main procedure comes from Samsung’s US support documentation, and it applies to Galaxy phones generally. Exact menu labels, the swipe gesture and the availability of individual features can differ by carrier, software version and model. The One UI layout distinction described above comes from Samsung Canada’s guidance, which was updated on January 10, 2026.
Samsung’s own description
Samsung’s support article describes the feature’s purpose this way: “It mutes all alerts on your Galaxy phone when you really need some peace and quiet.” The article is published by Samsung and does not attribute the sentence to a named author.
