The proposal is intended to serve a Crusoe data-center campus and could eventually include as many as five 300-megawatt reactor systems. The application is a step in the grid-connection process—not proof that ERCOT has approved the project, that construction is funded, or that the reactors will operate on the company’s proposed schedule.
Who is the Bethesda-area company seeking a Texas grid connection?
The applicant is Blue Energy Global Inc., described in reporting as a Maryland-based startup. The project itself is planned near Victoria, Texas; “Bethesda company” refers to the company’s home base, not the location of the proposed power plant. Reporting identifies Crusoe’s planned data-center campus as the intended customer for the electricity.

Reports describe Blue Energy’s application as the first ERCOT grid-connection application involving small modular reactors. That characterization concerns the type of application reported, not an approval or a precedent that guarantees a particular outcome.

Blue Energy’s reported plan calls for up to five 300 MW reactor systems, for a potential total of 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of nuclear capacity. The reactors are identified in reporting as GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy’s BWRX-300 design. These are company plans as reported, not completed or operating facilities.

- Powerful Output: 4400 peak watts and 3400 running watts, 2*120V AC ports, 1* 30A RV port, 1*12V DC port, 14 hours runtime at 25% load
- Gas Powered: 2 gallon fuel tank capital
- Features: Inverter technolog, ECO mode, EPA compliment, RV ready, overload protection, low oil shutdown, cold start technology
- Portable Generator: Weight 56lbs, lightweight and easy to move
- Note: All Oxseryn generators are functionally tested in the factory, so there may be a slight smell of gas when you receive it
The reported development is staged rather than nuclear-only from the outset. An October 2026 report described an initial natural-gas generation component of about 1 GW, followed by nuclear generation. The distinction matters: the reported 1 GW gas figure is not the same as the proposed nuclear capacity of up to 1.5 GW.
| Reported phase | Capacity | Reported target |
|---|---|---|
| Natural-gas generation | About 1 GW | Two units targeted for operation in 2030 and 2031 |
| Nuclear generation | Up to five 300 MW systems, or up to 1.5 GW | First nuclear unit expected in 2033 |
The gas-unit and nuclear dates are reported targets or expectations, not confirmed commissioning dates. Reaching operation would depend on the project advancing through development and applicable regulatory and grid processes.

- Transfer Switch-Ready with 50-Amp Outlet – Power your entire home by connecting directly to a transfer switch, thanks to the 50A heavy-duty outlet.
Has ERCOT approved Blue Energy’s reactors?
The available reporting establishes that Blue Energy applied; it does not establish a project-specific ERCOT classification, completed interconnection study, approval, or connection decision. Those are distinct steps. A large-load request entering a review framework is not the same as a finding that the grid can serve it without changes, and a general framework milestone does not decide an individual application.

ERCOT says the batch process evaluates large requests together, considers available capacity and transmission upgrades, and assesses reliability implications. The framework also provides pathways for large users that self-supply some or all of their electricity, and for users willing to curtail demand during local transmission constraints.

In a June 18, 2026 release, ERCOT said it anticipated notifying applicants of their classifications in August 2026. That was a general process expectation; it does not establish Blue Energy’s classification or show that the project received an interconnection decision. The exact queue entry and current project-specific review status are not established by the reporting cited here.
Why does ERCOT’s large-load queue matter?
The project is being proposed amid substantial demand for new grid connections, particularly from data centers. In an April 9, 2026 presentation, ERCOT reported tracking approximately 410 GW of large-load requests, with about 87% attributed to data centers. Those figures describe requests being considered, not power plants or customer facilities that are built, approved, or connected.

That scale helps explain why ERCOT evaluates large requests in batches and examines transmission and reliability implications. It does not, by itself, show whether Blue Energy’s particular project can be accommodated, what upgrades it might require, or how long its review will take. ERCOT Vice President of Interconnection and Grid Analysis Jeff Billo said stakeholder feedback helped shape the framework: “The depth of participation and quality of feedback were extraordinary, and both directly shaped how ERCOT manages large load connections in Texas.”
When could the Texas nuclear project begin operating?
Under the schedule described in October 2026 reporting, two gas units are targeted for operation in 2030 and 2031, and the first nuclear unit is expected in 2033. These dates describe a reported development plan, not a firm operating commitment. The application alone does not confirm that financing, construction, regulatory approvals, or grid connection are secured.
