Tōkon is presented as a Marvel-only game built around four-character teams, while Infinite is a Marvel-and-Capcom crossover using 2v2 teams and a selectable Infinity Stone. Their advertised story, training, offline and online modes also differ.

| Question | MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls | Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite |
|---|---|---|
| Team structure | Four-character team format | 2v2 team battles |
| Characters and setting | Marvel characters in an original Marvel story | Characters from Marvel and Capcom |
| Defining advertised mechanic | The cited official material confirms the four-character format but does not provide enough detail for a complete mechanic-by-mechanic breakdown | Choose one of six Infinity Stones; the selected Stone changes character abilities and can affect the battle |
| Story and offline content | Episode Mode, local Versus, Training Mode, All-Star Arena, Battle Guides and Character Guides | Story, Arcade, Training and Mission modes |
| Online features named by the official pages | Online play is advertised; the FAQ gives a server-start time | Ranked and casual matches, global leaderboards, online lobbies and spectator mode |
| Platforms and timing | PS5 and PC; PlayStation announced an August 6, 2026 release | Capcom’s current catalog lists a Steam product; regional availability should be checked before purchase |
The table shows why these games should not be treated as interchangeable versions of the same formula. The most important choice is whether you want a Marvel-only four-character structure or a two-character Marvel/Capcom crossover with a pre-match Stone selection.
What MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is
A Marvel-only team fighter with an original story
PlayStation describes MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls as a fighting game developed by Arc System Works and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Its announced setting is an original Marvel story rather than a crossover between Marvel and another game publisher’s characters. That gives Tōkon a different identity from Infinite before a match even begins: the roster and narrative are drawn from one universe.

The four-character question
Official materials describe Tōkon as using a four-character team format. That is the reliable answer to the common question, “Is Marvel Tōkon 4v4?” It is a four-character team game, but the cited descriptions do not say that four fighters from each side stand on screen simultaneously in a conventional eight-character battle. “Four-character team” should therefore not be expanded into an unsupported claim about the exact active-fighter, tagging or assist rules.
This distinction matters when comparing it with Infinite. Team size can change how players think about character coverage, matchup planning and roster experimentation, but team size alone does not prove that one game is faster, harder or more strategically deep.

The official FAQ lists Episode Mode, local Versus, Training Mode, All-Star Arena, Battle Guides and Character Guides. PlayStation also describes fighting CPU opponents and online play. Those labels suggest several ways to learn or play without immediately entering a ranked match:
- Episode Mode: the named story-style route in the FAQ.
- Local Versus: a same-device option for matches with another player.
- Training Mode: a practice environment.
- All-Star Arena: an additional offline challenge listed by the FAQ.
- Battle Guides and Character Guides: in-game instructional resources named by the FAQ.
The available descriptions do not specify the number of episodes, CPU difficulty settings, guide curriculum, or the detailed rules of All-Star Arena. Those details should be checked in the released game rather than inferred from the mode names.
What Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is
A Marvel-and-Capcom 2v2 crossover
Capcom describes Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite as a free-form 2v2 team fighter. Players select characters from both Marvel and Capcom, so the central fantasy is a cross-company matchup rather than a single-universe Marvel roster. The team format is explicitly two versus two, not four-character teams.

Capcom also describes a cinematic story involving Ultron Sigma. That story premise is one of the clearest differences in tone and scope: Infinite uses a crossover narrative built around characters from two properties, while Tōkon is presented as an original Marvel story.

Infinity Stones are the signature system identified by Capcom
Before a battle, players select one of six Infinity Stones. Capcom says the chosen Stone changes character abilities and can affect the fight. The official listing establishes the existence and broad purpose of the system, but it does not provide enough information here to responsibly describe every Stone’s moves, activation condition, cooldown, meter interaction or competitive value.
That limitation is important for a fair comparison. It is accurate to call the Stone choice a defining advertised mechanic in Infinite. It is not accurate to use the cited material to rank the Stones, declare one mandatory, or claim that the system makes Infinite more or less balanced than Tōkon.
Modes and online structure
Capcom’s listing names Story, Arcade, Training and Mission modes. It also lists ranked and casual online matches, global leaderboards, and online lobbies with spectator mode. These labels make Infinite’s publicly described competitive and social feature set more explicit than the short Tōkon descriptions, but they do not prove that Infinite currently has a larger player population or more reliable servers.
Capcom’s current catalog lists a Steam product for Infinite. The catalog is a live store reference, so check the product page for your territory, system requirements and any current purchasing restrictions before buying.

How the team structures differ in practice
Tōkon’s four-character format
A four-character team gives the player a larger selection to organize before a match than Infinite’s two-character format. You may be choosing a broader set of roles or backup options, but the official descriptions do not state how many characters are active at once, how switching works, whether assists are tied to specific teammates, or whether every selected character has an identical battlefield function.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.

For that reason, the safest way to evaluate Tōkon’s structure is to treat “four-character team” as a roster-building fact, not as a complete explanation of its battle engine. Wait for the game’s own tutorials or a full rules manual for details such as entry order, assist commands and resource sharing.
Infinite’s 2v2 format
Infinite’s 2v2 description establishes a smaller team commitment. The match is built around two selected characters on each side, with the chosen Infinity Stone adding a separate pre-match decision. Capcom calls the battles free-form, but the cited page does not define every tag, combo or assist interaction. Avoid importing assumptions from other entries in the crossover series.
The contrast is therefore clear at the planning level: Tōkon asks you to assemble a four-character Marvel team, while Infinite asks you to pair two Marvel or Capcom characters and select a Stone. Neither description supplies enough evidence to say which structure produces better matchups or a higher skill ceiling.
Mechanics: what is established and what remains unknown
What can be said about Tōkon
The official information cited for Tōkon establishes the team size, Marvel setting and advertised modes. PlayStation’s announcement also presents the controls and mechanics as easy to pick up while retaining depth and versatility for high-level competition. That wording is a developer design goal, not an independent test result.
No comparable official specification in the cited material lists Tōkon’s assist rules, resource meters, tag timing, movement options, combo limits, rollback implementation or frame data. Readers looking for those specifics should consult the game’s in-game Battle Guides and Character Guides after release, because the announcement and FAQ do not establish them.
What can be said about Infinite
Infinite’s best-documented distinctive system is the six-choice Infinity Stone mechanic. The Stone changes abilities and can influence the battle, adding a layer of customization beyond character selection. Capcom’s description also establishes the 2v2 structure and the named story, training, mission and online modes.

The cited listing does not provide a complete technical specification for neutral movement, damage scaling, combo routes, tag rules or the exact effects of each Stone. A serious comparison of execution difficulty, tournament viability or balance would require current hands-on testing or detailed independent analysis, none of which is supplied here.

Modes and player journeys
If you mainly play alone
Tōkon’s listed Episode Mode, CPU battles, All-Star Arena and guides indicate an offline path that combines narrative or challenge content with practice resources. The FAQ does not state how long those activities are, whether they adjust difficulty dynamically, or whether all characters are unlocked from the start.
Infinite offers Story, Arcade, Training and Mission modes. The Story mode is specifically described as cinematic and connected to Ultron Sigma. Arcade and Mission provide named alternatives to the main story, but the official listing does not quantify their stages or rewards.
If you play locally
Tōkon’s FAQ explicitly names local Versus. That makes same-device play part of the documented feature set. The cited Infinite listing emphasizes its online and single-player modes and does not, in the supplied description, make a separate local-versus claim. Confirm local multiplayer support and controller behavior in the current product documentation if couch play is your deciding factor.
If you train before going online
Both games have an officially named Training mode. Tōkon additionally lists Battle Guides and Character Guides, while Infinite’s listing names Mission mode alongside Training. Those labels help identify where to start, but they do not show which tutorial is more comprehensive. Use the in-game instruction tools to learn each title’s own terminology rather than assuming that a lesson from one game transfers directly to the other.
If you want ranked competition or spectators
Infinite’s listing explicitly names ranked matches, casual matches, leaderboards and lobbies with spectator mode. Tōkon’s sources confirm online play and publish a server-start schedule, but the cited FAQ and announcement do not enumerate equivalent ranked, leaderboard or spectator features. This is a difference in documented feature descriptions, not proof that one service is currently busier or more stable.

Platforms, release timing and online access
Tōkon on PS5 and PC
PlayStation announced Tōkon for PS5 and PC, with the release date set for August 6, 2026. The announcement is available at PlayStation’s release article. A second PlayStation post also describes the 2026 launch on PS5, Steam and Epic and carries the developer’s design-intent statement.
The official FAQ gives online server timing as August 6, 2026 at 3:00 PM UTC, which it also renders as August 6 at 8:00 PM PST and August 7 at midnight JST. Server schedules, account requirements and regional access can change, so verify the current FAQ before planning a first online session.
Infinite’s Steam listing
Capcom’s current catalog lists a Steam product for Infinite. Use the Capcom Town MARVEL vs. CAPCOM catalog to check the current listing, and consult the Infinite product page for the information Capcom publishes there. The supplied catalog reference is US-facing; storefront availability, language support and purchase options may differ elsewhere.
Neither set of cited pages establishes current cross-play support, netcode behavior, matchmaking population or service uptime. Those are live operational questions and should be checked close to the time you intend to play.

| A four-character team structure | MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls | The official materials describe four-character teams. |
| A two-character team plus a selectable battle modifier | Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite | Infinite uses 2v2 teams and one of six Infinity Stones. |

This is a feature-fit framework, not a quality ranking. It tells you which advertised structure resembles your preference; it does not predict your win rate, enjoyment or the health of either game’s online community.
Claims this comparison cannot settle
Official product descriptions are useful for identifying formats and modes, but they are not substitutes for testing. The available pages do not establish:
- Which game is more balanced or has a stronger tournament scene.
- Whether either title is easier to execute, faster to play or deeper at high level.
- Current player counts, queue times, server reliability or regional matchmaking quality.
- Roster size, downloadable-character plans, post-launch support or sales.
- Exact combo systems, frame data, damage values, assist rules or the full effects of every Infinity Stone.
- Whether the two games support cross-play, and if so, between which platforms.
Those questions need current game access, published technical documentation or comparable independent testing. Treat any article that derives them solely from the team-size descriptions as speculation.

- Choose the universe first. If you want only Marvel characters and an original Marvel narrative, start with Tōkon’s official PS5/PC information. If combining Marvel and Capcom characters is the main attraction, start with Infinite’s Steam listing.
- Choose the team commitment. Tōkon’s four-character format and Infinite’s 2v2 format ask you to build teams differently. Do not assume the four-character label means four fighters are simultaneously active.
- Choose the mechanic you want to learn. Infinite explicitly adds a six-way Infinity Stone selection. Tōkon’s cited pages do not yet give a full equivalent mechanic specification, so use its in-game guides for the released rules.
- Choose your preferred learning route. Tōkon documents Episode Mode, local Versus, All-Star Arena and guide modes. Infinite documents Story, Arcade, Training and Mission modes.
- Check live availability last. Confirm the current storefront, platform requirements, online status and regional account rules immediately before purchase or launch-day play. The Tōkon FAQ’s server time and Capcom’s Steam catalog are useful references, but live services and listings can change.
The bottom line
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is the better match on paper for a player who wants a Marvel-only game with four-character teams, an original story and documented local and guide-focused content on PS5 or PC. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is the clearer fit for someone who wants a 2v2 Marvel/Capcom crossover and the strategic choice of one of six Infinity Stones, plus explicitly listed ranked, casual, leaderboard and spectator features.
Neither game’s official description proves superior balance, depth, accessibility or online activity. The defensible difference is structural: four Marvel characters versus two crossover characters, with Infinite’s Infinity Stone selection providing its most clearly documented battle modifier.
