All three editions include the base game. Standard is the lowest-cost entry; Digital Deluxe adds the Year 1 Character and Stage Pass plus two lobby items; Ultimate adds five costumes and an animated color unlock for the 20 launch characters. In the US PlayStation Store snapshot checked October 7, 2026, Ultimate and Digital Deluxe were both listed at $84.99, with the Ultimate price discounted through October 22 at 06:59 UTC. Prices and offers vary by region and can change, so check your local store before buying.
What each edition includes
| Edition | Official US RRP | Included content | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $59.99 | Base game | Players who want the game at the lowest official list price. A physical PS5 version is confirmed. |
| Digital Deluxe | $84.99 | Base game; Year 1 Character and Stage Pass; Howard the Duck lobby avatar; Cosmo lobby pet | Players who want the planned Year 1 playable content and stage, along with the two lobby extras. |
| Ultimate | $99.99 | All Digital Deluxe content; five costumes; animated Chromatic color unlock for all 20 launch characters | Players who want the Ultimate cosmetics. During the US promotion shown on October 7, 2026, its displayed price matched Digital Deluxe. |
The figures in the RRP column are US recommended retail prices listed in the official FAQ, not guaranteed current prices in every store or country. The US PlayStation product page showed Digital Deluxe at $84.99 and Ultimate discounted from $99.99 to $84.99 through October 22, 2026, at 06:59 UTC. That is a dated promotion, not a permanent price relationship.

What the Year 1 pass adds
The Year 1 Character and Stage Pass is a content bundle, not a statement that every item is already available. Official descriptions list four additional playable characters, one additional stage, and a set of result-screen poses for the 20-character base roster. Phoenix Cyclops was announced as the first Year 1 character; the sources cited here do not establish a release status or timetable for the other pass content.
The US PlayStation Store listing showed the pass separately for $34.99 when checked for this article. Treat that as a storefront snapshot: the price can change and may differ by region. The official pass listing describes its contents.
#1 Best Overall
- Assemble your team of legendary Marvel characters in the ultimate 4v4 tag team fighter from PlayStation Studios, Arc System Works and Marvel Games.
- Experiment with team compositions to discover new combos, synergies, and strategies. Blast your way through dynamic stages based on iconic Marvel Universe locales, some featuring interactive stage transitions.
- Fighting is both immersive and intuitive, with a range of unique move sets, combos, and strategies to master. Adjustable controls, both traditional and quick inputs, plus easy chain combos make diving right in a breeze.
- Face off against a friend locally or join the fray with up to 64 players in the online lobby, including standard VS modes. Plus, dive deep on each team with the single player Episode Mode to learn more about team dynamics and lore.
For a buyer focused on future playable characters and the stage, the practical comparison is Standard plus a separately purchased pass versus Digital Deluxe. At the official US RRPs, Standard plus the pass’s snapshot price totals $94.98, while Digital Deluxe’s listed RRP is $84.99. That arithmetic compares the FAQ’s Standard and Deluxe RRPs with a separate US storefront price checked October 7, 2026; it is not a guaranteed checkout total or a prediction of future add-on pricing.
What Ultimate adds beyond Digital Deluxe
Ultimate’s additions over Digital Deluxe are cosmetic: five costumes and an animated Chromatic color unlock for all 20 launch characters. The costumes are for Captain America (Classic), Iron Man (Classic), Storm (Punk Rock), Doctor Doom (Supreme Ruler), and Spider-Man (Advanced Suit 2.0). PlayStation says Spider-Man’s costume draws on the Advanced Suit 2.0 from Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The announced costume availability period ends August 5, 2027; consult the PlayStation announcement for the original edition and bonus details.

- Assemble your dream team of legendary Marvel characters in a brand new 4v4 tag team fighter from PlayStation Studios, Arc System Works and Marvel Games.
- Choose from an expanding roster of 20 iconic characters at launch, each reimagined in a bold, anime-inspired art style.
- Experiment with team compositions to unlock new combos, synergies and strategies across dynamic, Marvel Universe-inspired stages.
- Play locally against a friend or dive into online lobbies and ranked matchmaking with full cross-play support against the PC version.
- Explore an original story in the single player Episode Mode, diving deeper into the lore behind each team.
These are appearance options, not gameplay advantages. If the current local Ultimate price is meaningfully higher than Digital Deluxe, the decision comes down to whether those specific cosmetics are worth the difference. In the US promotion shown October 7, 2026, the listed prices were equal, making Ultimate the more inclusive choice for a buyer purchasing before the offer expired.

The game launched August 6, 2026, on PS5 and PC. PlayStation announced a regional launch date of August 7 for New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and Korea. The physical edition confirmed by the FAQ is PS5 Standard; the cited sources do not establish a physical Deluxe or Ultimate edition.

According to the official FAQ, owners of a physical PS5 Standard Edition can buy a Digital Deluxe or Ultimate upgrade through PlayStation Store and download the bonus content. Standard and Digital Deluxe owners can also upgrade to Ultimate. Add-on availability and prices depend on the store and can change. The US product page snapshot showed a Standard-to-Ultimate upgrade at $40.00 and the Deluxe-to-Ultimate upgrade as unavailable; neither listing should be treated as a universal or current offer.
Online requirements on PS5
The official FAQ says PS5 online gameplay and other online features require an internet connection and a PlayStation Plus account. Its answer does not state that these are requirements for offline play.

Which edition should you choose?
- Choose Standard if you want the base game for the lowest listed US RRP, or prefer the confirmed physical PS5 copy and may decide about add-ons later.
- Choose Digital Deluxe if you want the Year 1 pass and lobby items included at purchase, and you do not need Ultimate’s costumes or animated colors.
- Choose Ultimate if you want its cosmetic extras. During the US offer shown October 7, 2026, it cost the same on the product page as Digital Deluxe; confirm the current local price and offer end time before checkout.
- Compare Standard plus the pass if your priority is the planned characters and stage rather than lobby or costume extras. A separately listed pass price can change, so compare the live total rather than relying on the snapshot above.
Arc System Works producer Takeshi Yamanaka said in a July 23, 2026 PlayStation.Blog post that the team planned “a variety of updates, including new characters, new stages, and more.” This describes plans, not a delivery timetable. The same post announced Wolverine’s Battle Reborn Suit as a free costume planned for September 1, 2026; the announcement alone does not establish its current availability. See the July 23 announcement for those statements.
