Marvel Cosmic Invasion has 15 playable heroes in its base roster, and its signature Cosmic Swap system lets you choose two for a level and switch between them instantly. That makes each level a tag-team pairing: the publisher says the system can support unique combos and powerful special attacks, but official descriptions do not identify a best pair or publish a hero-synergy ranking.
How Cosmic Swap works
Before each level, choose two heroes. During the fight, you can switch between them instantly. Dotemu and the official Nintendo and PlayStation listings present Cosmic Swap as a way to combine character abilities, create combos and unleash powerful special attacks.

The feature gives you a selected pair to work with rather than locking you to one hero for the whole level. The official descriptions do not specify button inputs, a swap cooldown, exactly how a special attack uses both characters, or which pair performs best. Treat claims about optimal combinations as unverified unless they are supported by specific gameplay evidence.
The 15 base-game characters
Nintendo and PlayStation list the same 15 playable heroes in the base game. Nintendo groups the first eight below as Earth-born and the remaining seven as Galactic.

The group labels describe the roster’s breadth; they do not establish specific combat roles or recommend a Cosmic Swap pairing. Dotemu’s September 17, 2025 character reveal describes Black Panther as Wakanda’s leader, equipped with a vibranium-enhanced suit and sonic daggers. It describes Cosmic Ghost Rider as the Punisher transformed after making a pact to avenge Earth’s destruction at Thanos’s hands. Those character summaries are not a complete guide to their moves.
Downloadable characters are separate from the base roster
Official listings distinguish downloadable content from the 15 named base-game heroes. Cyclops and The Thing are listed together as the first DLC add-on, not as members of that base roster.

Dotemu’s press-kit page also lists “The Siege of Castle Doom” as a second DLC, naming Doctor Doom and The Invisible Woman as new playable characters and giving a November 10 date. The displayed listing does not specify a year, so the date alone does not establish whether that content is currently available. Check the current official listing for its release status and platform availability.

Why these heroes are fighting together
Dotemu’s story description says Annihilus launches an unprecedented attack across the galaxy, bringing the heroes together against the Annihilation Wave. Their journey stretches from New York City to the depths of the Negative Zone. The publisher’s description attributes the line “The cosmos must fall so that I might live!!” to Annihilus.

How many people can play?
Nintendo’s US listing specifies one to four players for both single-system and online play. Dotemu describes local and online multiplayer with drop-in/drop-out support. The US PlayStation listing says one to four players and up to four online players with PS Plus; subscription requirements should not be assumed to be identical across platforms.
