Instead of translating scattered screenshots and messages into code tasks by hand, a reviewer can comment on the rendered interface; Maple is designed to connect that feedback to the relevant source and make it available through MCP.
What Maple does
Software engineer Nitzan Kletter describes Maple as a review workflow installed in an application, rather than a standalone hosted review service. A team adds it to a preview build, shares the deployed preview, and lets reviewers comment on the UI they see. The intended payoff is less ambiguity between a visual observation and the code change needed to address it.

Kletter captures the problem in one sentence: “The fix was never the expensive part. The translation was.” That is the product’s central idea: make review feedback more actionable for both engineers and coding agents.
The project is open source, and its packages are published under the Apache-2.0 license. The core package listing identifies version 0.18.0 and labels the project pre-release; versions and compatibility can change, so check the current Maple core package page before adopting it.

How the review workflow works
- Add Maple to the preview build. The official core package describes mounting Maple on an existing preview URL, with Vite and Next.js integrations. The launch article describes enabling its build-time tagging route for preview builds.
- Comment on the rendered interface. A reviewer selects an element, region, or text and leaves feedback, along with context such as the visual state being reviewed.
- Pass the comment to an agent. The author says Maple associates comments with source location and review context, including a screenshot. Its MCP server makes comments available to coding agents, which can retrieve context and mark addressed comments resolved.
- Optionally gate a merge. Kletter describes a CI check named
maple/visual-reviewthat can hold a merge while visual comments remain unresolved and can optionally require approval. Forge support and setup details should be checked in the current documentation before using this as a merge control.
What makes a Maple comment source-aware
According to Kletter, a build-time JSX tagger records a component’s file, line, and column. That lets feedback point toward source code rather than relying only on a CSS selector that may be fragile as the interface changes. The author also says Maple captures the selected component or text, viewport, and state context.
The MCP server is the handoff between this review context and an agent. The launch article describes operations to list comments, wait for new comments, retrieve their context, and resolve them. These are stated capabilities; they should not be read as independent evidence that every agent or application integration works without configuration.

- FLAVOR PROFILE: Our Grade A Amber Color Rich Taste syrup provides a naturally sweet, rich and smooth taste. A pronounced maple flavor makes Amber Rich maple syrup a favorite for table and all around use.
- SUSTAINABLY SOURCED: At Butternut Mountain Farm we are committed to giving you 100% pure Vermont maple syrup. The farmers with whom we work with understand maple and share our commitment to maintaining the health and sustainability of our forests.
- QUALITY STORY: Our pure maple syrup is carefully selected to ensure the product you receive is of the highest quality. With our strict quality standards, we can trace every drop of syrup from farm to table.
- PACKAGING BENEFITS: Easy-open, easy-pour, jugs are tamper-evident with an inner seal. They ship well, so they make excellent gifts. Syrup stored in BPA-free plastic jugs retains its natural flavor better than in traditional tin containers.
- OTHER USES: Use in coffee/tea, cocktails or over cereal, fruit, yogurt or pudding. Add to baked beans, apple pies, pickles and stir fries. Makes a delicious marinade or sauce. Great as a gift.
Additional features described by the author
Reviewing mocked UI states
Maple Mock is described as a way to request less common states in natural language, such as an empty or error state, and preserve the mock context for the agent. This is intended to make states that are awkward to reach in a live application easier to include in visual review.
Rendered-page design checks
The launch article says Maple’s lint package inspects rendered output for off-token colors, type-scale mismatches, small touch targets, contrast, and motion behavior. The available material does not independently validate the checks or their thresholds against standards documentation, so teams should verify the current rules and decide whether they fit their design system.

Storage and project maturity
At the time of Kletter’s launch article, he said Maple had no hosted shared store. He warned that a file store in an ephemeral preview pod could lose comments and recommended GitHub or a custom connector. That is the author’s stated status at publication, not a guarantee about the project’s current storage options; confirm persistence behavior before basing a team workflow on it.
The core npm listing describes Maple as pre-release 0.x software and says there is no compatibility promise. That makes it sensible to test the integration in a non-critical project, check how comments survive preview redeployments, and review package changes before upgrading.

Who should consider Maple
Maple is most relevant to teams that already deploy frontend previews and want reviewers to comment on those previews in a way a coding agent can use. Its distinguishing combination, as presented by the author, is deployed-preview feedback, source context, MCP handoff, optional mock-state review, visual linting, and a possible merge gate.

The author positions Maple against a gap between feedback confined to a developer’s localhost and team review on deployed previews. The launch article also names several adjacent tools, but those comparisons are the author’s framing rather than an independent feature audit. The useful questions when evaluating Maple or another workflow are where comments are collected, how they map to code, whether agents can retrieve them, whether unresolved feedback can block a merge, and how review data persists.
Quick Recap
What to verify before adopting it
- Confirm the current package versions, framework integration steps, and supported deployment setup in the Maple core package listing.
- Check current documentation for MCP operations and whether the coding agent your team uses can consume them.
- Test source mapping against your build and component structure; the source-anchoring behavior is described by the author, not independently tested here.
- Determine where comments are stored and whether they remain available after preview environments are replaced.
- Verify current CI provider support and configuration before making visual review a required merge check.
- Review the project’s pre-release compatibility terms and decide how your team will manage updates.
