If a site is allowed but its alerts still do not appear, check whether Android is also blocking notifications from the browser app.
Configure website notifications in Chrome
Chrome has separate controls for notifications from all sites and for an individual site. Use the overall setting for a broad change; use the site-specific setting when you want to allow or block only one website. Google Chrome Help explains both routes.

Turn notifications on or off for sites generally
- Open Chrome and tap More (the three-dot menu).
- Tap Settings > Site settings > Notifications.
- Use the top-level control to turn site notifications on or off.
This is a broad browser setting. It is not the same as changing permission for just one website.
Change permission for one website
- Open the website in Chrome.
- Tap Page info beside the address bar.
- Tap Permissions, then change Notifications for that site.
If Chrome says it blocked notifications from the site, review its permission here and allow it only if you trust the site and want its alerts.

Reduce permission pop-ups without blocking every site
In Chrome’s notification settings, Use quieter messaging makes permission requests less interruptive: a request appears unobtrusively under the address bar rather than as a pop-up. It does not automatically grant or deny notification permission; you still decide whether to allow a site.
If Chrome notifications stopped arriving
Start with the permission for the affected site using the site-specific steps above. If it is blocked, change that setting if you want to receive the site’s alerts.

Chrome may block sites it identifies as disruptive, abusive, or misleading. It may also remove notification permissions for sites you have not visited for a while. Google says Chrome can notify you about removed permissions and lets you review them through Safety Check or site permissions. These are possible causes, not an explanation for every missing notification. See Google’s information about notification permissions and safety controls.

Android’s Settings labels and menu paths vary by device and version, so look for the browser app’s notification settings rather than relying on a single universal breadcrumb.

Choose notification permissions in Firefox for Android
Mozilla documents browser-level choices for website notification requests in Firefox for Android:
- Open Firefox’s vertical-dots menu and tap Settings.
- Tap Site permissions > Notification.
- Choose Ask to allow to receive permission prompts, or Blocked to stop website notifications.
Mozilla Support’s instructions cover these Firefox settings. The documented choices are browser-level; they should not be treated as a verified route for changing permission for one specific site.

Why Chrome’s notification prompt may look different
Prompt appearance can vary with Chrome’s version and rollout. In an article published July 22, 2026, Google’s Chrome for Developers described a lighter notification experience on Android beginning with Chrome 155. If your prompt looks different from older instructions, the change in design does not by itself mean notification permission has been granted or blocked.
