Check your exact Makita model and Mellif battery version before buying. The published capacity and runtime claims do not establish which brand lasts longer in a matched test, and Mellif says its charger cannot charge genuine Makita batteries.
Compatibility: check the exact tool and battery version
Makita organizes battery compatibility by platform: LXT batteries are for supported LXT products, not automatically for every Makita cordless tool. Makita’s Cordless FAQ describes LXT batteries in capacities from 1.5Ah to 6.0Ah and notes that some 36V (18V X2) LXT products use two 18V LXT batteries. Do not extend that guidance to CXT, XGT, or non-LXT tools.

For its BL1850B 5.0Ah pack, Makita specifies compatibility with Makita 18V Lithium-Ion tools with a Star Symbol and/or yellow battery receivers. That is useful guidance, but the manual or product page for your exact tool model is the safer check. See the Makita BL1850B 5.0Ah battery page.

Mellif describes its 18V 4.0Ah battery as compatible with Makita 18V power tools. Its Battery & Charger FAQ says battery color indicates compatibility and identifies green batteries for Makita-compatible tools. These are Mellif’s compatibility statements; the cited material does not provide independent, tool-by-tool verification. Confirm the precise tool model and battery version with Mellif before relying on the fit claim.

Capacity and runtime: the published claims are not a head-to-head test
| Pack | Published capacity | Published runtime or charge claim | What the claim establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Makita BL1850B | 5.0Ah | Makita says up to 65% more runtime per charge than its BL1830 3.0Ah battery; full charge in 45 minutes or less. | Makita’s comparison with another Makita pack, not a comparison with Mellif. |
| Mellif 18V pack cited here | 4.0Ah | Mellif says up to twice the runtime of a standard 2.0Ah battery; its 4.0A charger fills the pack in under 60 minutes. | Mellif’s own product claims, not independent test results. |
Makita’s BL1830B 3.0Ah product page says that pack reaches full charge in 30 minutes or less. The BL1850B and BL1830B charging figures apply to the specified chargers and should not be generalized to other chargers or battery conditions. Mellif’s listing also specifies that its bundled charger cannot charge original Makita batteries.
Amp-hours describe labeled capacity, not guaranteed working time. Actual runtime varies with the tool, workload, battery condition, temperature, and work pattern. Since the cited claims compare different packs and use different reference batteries, they do not show whether a Makita or Mellif pack lasts longer in the same tool and task. Establishing that would require equivalent new packs, repeated runs on the same tool and task, and recorded conditions.
Rank #2
- Integrated L.E.D. battery charge level indicator allows user to monitor battery charge
- Provides up to 50% more run time per charge compared to BL1815
- Reaches full charge in 25 minutes or less
- Compatible with 18V LXT Tools
- Battery delivers consistent power and run time in extreme temperatures, even in winter (-4DegreeF/-20DegreeC)
Charging: battery fit does not mean charger fit
Mellif says its batteries must be charged with a matching Mellif charger, and its product listing says the included charger cannot charge original Makita packs. Treat charger compatibility as separate from the question of whether a Mellif pack is claimed to fit a Makita tool. Use the charger instructions for the exact battery rather than assuming a charger can serve both brands.

Cost and warranty: compare local offers and written terms
There is no established matched current U.S. price comparison in the cited official product information: Makita’s U.S. BL1850B page does not give a retail price. A Mellif European listing observed for the 4.0Ah battery-plus-charger variant displayed €69.99, but storefront prices can change and that regional bundle is not a like-for-like price for a Makita 5.0Ah pack. Check the current price, seller, included charger, capacity, and warranty in your market before comparing. Price per labeled amp-hour is at most a rough capacity ratio; it does not prove runtime or service life.
Rank #3
- Extended Run Time; Powers 18V LXT, 18V Compact Tools and 36V (18V X2) LXT Tools
- 18V LXT Lithium-Ion 4.0Ah battery reaches a full charge in 90 minutes
- Provides up to 35% more run time per charge compared to BL1830
- Integrated L.E.D. battery charge level indicator allows user to monitor battery charge
- Battery delivers consistent power and run time in extreme temperatures, even in winter (-4°F/-20°C)
Warranty headlines also differ by source and geography. Makita’s U.S. Cordless FAQ says lithium-ion tools, batteries, and chargers have a three-year limited warranty from original purchase, subject to exclusions. Mellif’s European product listing advertises a five-year warranty and a 90-day trial. Compare the current written terms and eligibility for your region rather than treating those periods as equivalent coverage. The cited information does not establish that using a third-party battery automatically voids a Makita tool warranty.

Makita warns that non-genuine batteries sold as compatible may pose fire-damage risks and may have warranty consequences. That is the manufacturer’s warning, not an independent failure-rate comparison; it does not establish that all third-party batteries share a particular risk. Read Makita’s warning on non-genuine compatible batteries and its genuine parts and accessories information, then weigh that guidance alongside the exact battery’s documentation and warranty.

Which one should you choose?
- Choose a genuine Makita LXT pack if you want to stay within Makita’s stated battery platform and use the specified Makita charging system. Check the tool manual for compatibility and compare current local prices.
- Consider Mellif only after confirming fit for your exact tool model and the specific battery color/version. Factor in that Mellif’s charger is not for charging genuine Makita packs, and check the applicable local warranty terms.
- Do not choose by runtime promises alone. The named figures are manufacturer claims against different reference batteries, not a comparable Makita-versus-Mellif test.
