If the screen keeps changing on its own, looks unusually dim, or has a yellow tint, check Adaptive brightness, Extra dim, and Eye comfort shield; the options and menu names vary by tablet model and software version.
How to adjust brightness in Settings
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display.
- Move the Brightness slider until the screen is comfortable to view. Samsung’s Galaxy phone and tablet display settings guide documents this control.
How to change brightness from Quick settings
For a faster adjustment, open the Quick settings panel and move its brightness slider, usually marked with a sun icon. On some Galaxy devices, you open the panel by swiping down from the top-right edge of the screen; tablet gestures and panel layouts can differ. If you do not see the slider, try expanding the panel or use Settings > Display. Samsung describes the Quick panel control in its brightness troubleshooting guide.

Choose between manual and automatic brightness
| Setting | What it does | When to use it |

| Brightness slider | Lets you choose the screen brightness directly. | Use it when you want a specific level or need to override automatic changes. |
| Adaptive brightness | Automatically adjusts brightness in response to ambient light. | Use it if you want the tablet to respond to changes in room lighting. Turn it off if you prefer to control brightness yourself. |
Look for Adaptive brightness under Settings > Display. When it is enabled, the screen may change brightness as the surrounding light changes, even if you have adjusted the slider. Samsung describes this behavior in its display settings guide.
Fix a screen that is too dim or looks yellow
Turn off Extra dim
If the screen remains much darker than expected after raising the brightness, check Settings > Accessibility > Vision enhancements > Extra dim. Disable Extra dim if it is on. It applies additional dimming, separate from the regular brightness slider. The menu or feature may not be available on every tablet.

Check Eye comfort shield
If whites look warm or yellow, open Settings > Display > Eye comfort shield and review whether it is enabled or scheduled. This feature can change the screen’s color appearance. Samsung says Eye comfort shield is available on devices running One UI 3.1 or later, but not every model supports every option. Recheck automatic brightness
If the slider seems ineffective or the screen changes level again, check whether Adaptive brightness is enabled. Then check Extra dim and Eye comfort shield if those settings are available. Samsung notes that names, locations, and supported features can vary by model and software version.

About an “Extra brightness” option
Samsung’s cited instructions for Extra brightness describe selected Galaxy phone models, and say Adaptive brightness must be off to use that phone setting. They do not establish that the option is generally available on Galaxy tablets, so do not assume your tablet includes it. The phone-specific details are in Samsung’s brightness troubleshooting guide.
