You can give Windows 11 a Mac-inspired desktop with built-in themes, a carefully chosen wallpaper, desktop widgets, and optional window effects. The key limitation: Windows’ Mica material is opaque, not clear glass, and third-party effects apply only to supported parts of the interface. Start with reversible Windows settings, then add optional tools one at a time.
What “a Mac theme with glass effect” means on Windows 11
There is no single Windows setting that converts the whole desktop into macOS. A Windows theme coordinates supported elements such as the background, colors, sounds, and cursor; it does not replace the operating system or restyle every app. To create a Mac-inspired look, combine those built-in options with desktop skins and, if desired, app-specific window styling.

It also helps to distinguish a soft, wallpaper-aware tint from transparent glass. Microsoft’s Mica material is opaque: it incorporates the desktop wallpaper into a subdued surface, and is designed to capture that wallpaper once and adapt as a window moves. It may look glass-like, but it does not reveal the desktop through the window. Microsoft’s Mica guidance describes its behavior and design.
Start with Windows’ built-in theme and transparency settings
- Open Settings > Personalization > Themes. Choose an included theme, or browse themes in Microsoft Store. You can then adjust the background, color, sounds, and cursor to suit the look you want. Microsoft’s theme instructions explain the available controls.
- For a calmer, Mac-inspired desktop, choose a wallpaper and accent color that keep window text and controls easy to see. Treat the cursor and sound choices as optional finishing touches rather than requirements.
- Open Settings > Personalization > Colors and turn on Transparency effects, if the option is available in your Windows build. This is a system-level visual setting, not a switch that makes every app window transparent. Individual apps use their own materials and backdrops; Mica may fall back when transparency is turned off.
Add desktop widgets or overlays with Rainmeter
Rainmeter lets you place desktop skins—such as clocks, system information, and other widgets—over the wallpaper. It affects those skins, not the window frames of unrelated applications. Install it from the Rainmeter project site, then choose a skin from a source you trust and follow that skin’s setup instructions.

To adjust a skin’s visibility, right-click that skin and open Settings > Transparency. The exact choices can depend on the skin. Before changing or replacing skins, back up both the Rainmeter layout/settings and the skin files; saving only the layout may not preserve the skin itself. Use optional tools for supported window effects
If your goal is a more translucent-looking window frame or Explorer interface, optional styling tools can extend the built-in appearance. They are not universal Mac themes: the result depends on the specific tool, mod or configuration, application, and Windows build.

Windhawk
Windhawk provides separate mods for specific styling targets. Review the behavior and requirements of each mod before enabling it; installing the platform does not automatically make every app translucent. Its Translucent Windows mod page documents window effects and the possibility of blur bleeding at maximized or snapped edges. Mica For Everyone is a separate utility for applying backdrop effects to supported Win32 window frames or backgrounds. Check its project page for current details and use only the official download channels listed there. Do not assume that an effect will work in every app or on every Windows build.

Test changes and roll back anything that hurts readability
Apply one change at a time so you can identify what caused a visual problem. After each change, check the apps you use most, including windows arranged side by side and maximized windows. Look for text that blends into the background, clipped or bleeding edges, and controls that are hard to distinguish.
- If the built-in appearance is too subtle, keep the theme and wallpaper and try a targeted optional effect rather than expecting Mica to become transparent.
- If a skin is too distracting or obscures desktop items, change its per-skin transparency or unload it.
- If a window effect causes blur bleed or makes controls difficult to read, disable or remove that mod and return to the prior appearance before trying another option.
For a straightforward rollback, turn off the Windows transparency setting or restore your previous theme. For Rainmeter, unload the changed skin or restore the saved settings and skin files. For Windhawk or Mica For Everyone, disable the relevant mod or effect using that tool’s controls.
