Games you can play without Wi-Fi
Downloaded mobile games are a practical option for a flight, commute or other offline stretch. The key is that offline support depends on the individual game: downloading a game does not guarantee that it will start or keep working without an internet connection.

Netflix mobile games
Netflix says its mobile games can be downloaded and played on compatible Android phones and tablets, iPhone and iPad. Downloading and installing require an internet connection, enough device storage and a compatible device. After the initial download, setup and login, Netflix says an internet connection is not required for offline play. See Netflix’s offline-play guidance for the conditions.
What still needs a connection
Some games work offline only for their main activity. Netflix’s Tomb of the Mask is one example: its Map and Arcade modes do not require a permanent connection, but global leaderboards, event rankings, achievements and cloud saves do. The title-specific support page describes those limits. This is an example, not a guarantee about other games or a permanent recommendation.

Do not assume a game works offline just because it is single-player. Microsoft’s Xbox developer guidance says games are not required to support offline play; that guidance applies to Xbox, not PC. Check the support information for the particular game and platform you plan to use.
Music and podcasts for an offline trip
Downloaded playlists and podcast episodes can keep playing when you are disconnected, provided the app supports offline playback and the files are available on your device. In Spotify, downloaded content can play offline, and Offline Mode limits playback to downloads. Spotify says downloads may be lost if you do not reconnect at least once in 30 days, reinstall the app or exceed five devices. Check Spotify’s offline-listening guidance for its rules.

Other media saved on your device
Books, videos and other files already stored locally on your phone or tablet can also be options for offline time. This depends on the file being genuinely saved to the device and readable by an app that works offline. Content that only streams from a website or service is not available merely because you opened it earlier.

Prepare and test before you leave
- Connect to Wi-Fi and download. Install your chosen game, playlist or podcast episodes before departure. Leave enough time for large downloads and check that the device has sufficient storage.
- Open the game while connected. Complete any initial setup, required sign-in or login, and let the game finish installing. Check its support page for connection requirements and offline limitations.
- Confirm compatibility. Make sure the title supports your device and operating system; availability and requirements can vary by game.
- Test without a connection. Turn on airplane mode or otherwise disconnect from Wi-Fi and mobile data, then launch the game or start the downloaded audio. Confirm the parts you want to use actually work.
- Plan for battery and access. Keep the device charged for the trip. If you rely on downloaded audio, follow the service’s reconnection rules so downloads remain available.
A short offline test can reveal whether a game needs an online login, whether only connected extras are unavailable, or whether a download did not finish. Fix those issues while you still have a connection.
