Try Dolby Atmos, Equalizer, and Adapt sound with familiar audio and your usual headphones or phone speaker. These controls can change the sound to suit your content and preferences, but they do not guarantee an improvement for every listener.
Find the audio controls
On many Galaxy phones, go to Settings → Sounds and vibration → Sound quality and effects. If the labels or path differ, search Settings for “Sound quality and effects” or for a specific feature. Samsung notes that screens and available settings can vary by carrier and software version. Its regional instructions may also differ; the Canadian guide, for example, applies to devices sold in Canada. Samsung’s US guide and Samsung’s Saudi Arabia guide document the menu and feature options.

Which settings should you try?
Dolby Atmos: compare modes with your usual content
Turn on Dolby Atmos, then listen to familiar music, video, or spoken audio with the feature on and off. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance lists Auto, Movie, Music, and Voice modes; choose one that fits what you are listening to, then compare rather than assuming one mode is best. On Samsung’s US guidance, Dolby Atmos can also be toggled from Quick Settings; press and hold its icon to see advanced choices. The available controls can vary by phone and software. If Galaxy Buds are connected, Samsung says 360 Audio may appear in Sound quality and effects in place of Dolby Atmos. That is a menu difference to be aware of, not a reason to expect the same controls on every paired device.

Equalizer: start with a preset, then make small changes
Open Equalizer and try a preset that suits your material: Normal, Pop, Classic, Jazz, or Rock. Custom lets you adjust the sound manually. Listen to the same section of audio after each change, and keep a setting only if it sounds clearer or more pleasing to you. A preset or custom curve is a preference adjustment, not a universal “best” setting.
Adapt sound: personalize a profile with headphones
Adapt sound offers age-group options and a custom profile based on an on-screen hearing test. Follow the prompts on your phone to select or create a profile. Samsung’s US guidance says wired or Bluetooth headphones are needed to preview a profile or complete the hearing-test steps, so connect headphones before trying those actions. UHQ upscaler: check only if you use connected headphones
UHQ upscaler is a headphone-dependent option: Samsung says it is available when headphones are plugged in or connected. Its US guidance specifically names wired Samsung Type-C headphones, while its Canada guide also describes using UHQ upscaler with connected headphones. If the control is missing, your phone, software, or connected output may not support it. Check connector and model compatibility before buying headphones for this feature. Samsung Canada’s guide was last updated July 10, 2025, and notes that settings can vary by market.

Change one control at a time and replay the same passage at the same volume. Try the output you actually use: the phone speaker, wired headphones, or Bluetooth headphones. A sound effect may suit a film but not a voice recording, and a change that works for one pair of headphones may not suit another. Keeping the content and volume consistent makes it easier to tell whether the setting helps your own listening.

- Music: compare Dolby Atmos modes and Equalizer presets with a familiar track.
- Video or games: try the relevant Dolby Atmos mode if it is available, then compare with it off.
- Speech: test Voice mode or an Adapt sound profile if the feature is available and you can use headphones for its setup.
If a setting is missing or has no effect
- Search Settings for the feature name; menu labels and availability can vary by carrier, model, and software version.
- For Adapt sound profile previews or hearing-test steps, connect wired or Bluetooth headphones first.
- For UHQ upscaler, connect headphones and check whether your phone exposes the option.
- If Galaxy Buds are connected, look for 360 Audio where Dolby Atmos might otherwise appear.
- When testing an effect, replay the same content and compare the setting on and off; do not judge it from a different track or volume.
Samsung documents these as available audio features, not as a measured sound-quality gain for every phone or listener. The useful setting is the one that works best for your content, output device, and taste.
