What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
To import local music into VirtualDJ, open the folder that contains it in the Browser, or right-click a folder or drive and choose Batch Add to Search DB to index a larger collection. This makes tracks searchable in VirtualDJ without copying, moving, or deleting the original files.
Add a music folder to VirtualDJ
- Open the Browser. In the Folder List, browse to a local source such as Music, Videos, Desktop, or a drive or volume.
- Open the folder containing your tracks. VirtualDJ automatically adds the folder’s tracks to its Search Database the first time the folder is focused.
- Search for a track. Enter part of an artist name or track title in the Browser Search field.
The Folder List may also show detected locations from third-party DJ software, including iTunes, Serato crates, Traktor, and Rekordbox. Available locations and screen layouts can vary by version and platform. VirtualDJ User Manual: Folder List

Index music spread across folders or drives
If your collection is stored in several places, use the batch command on each relevant folder or drive. It includes subfolders, so you do not need to add every nested folder individually.
- Expand the relevant root in the Browser’s Folder List.
- Right-click the folder or hard drive that contains music.
- Choose Batch Add to Search DB.
- Repeat for any other locations you want included in searches.
Indexing adds entries to VirtualDJ’s Search Database; it does not copy, move, or delete source files. The VirtualDJ User Manual describes this behavior in its Search Database documentation.

Indexing is not audio analysis
Adding music to the Search Database makes it easier to find; it does not calculate track length, BPM, or musical key. If you want those details, right-click a track and choose Analyze for BPM. For multiple tracks, select them or a folder and use batch analysis. The manual recommends analyzing a large library in smaller groups, including by filtering for tracks that have not yet been scanned. See VirtualDJ User Manual: Song options.
How local files differ from online catalogs and USB export
| Workflow | What it is for | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Local folders and drives | Making music already stored on your computer searchable | Adds tracks to the Search Database; it does not copy or relocate files. |
| Online catalogs | Finding catalog content rather than indexing your local collection | VirtualDJ documents searching online catalogs and caching an online track for offline playback as a separate workflow. VirtualDJ User Manual: Online music |
| OneLibrary and USB | Preparing folders and playlists on a connected USB drive for CDJ use | Copies files into the drive’s browser list as part of a distinct export workflow. A USB drive is not required to add local music to VirtualDJ. VirtualDJ User Manual: OneLibrary and USB drive documentation |
Back up before library cleanup
The Browser toolbar includes options to back up the database and remove missing files. Consider creating a backup before extensive library maintenance. Removing missing-file entries is database cleanup; it is distinct from adding music to the Search Database. VirtualDJ User Manual: Database tools
