There is no single BlueStacks setting that delivers peak performance on every PC. The right setup depends on your hardware, Android instance, game, and whether you run other applications at the same time. Start by checking that the computer meets BlueStacks’ requirements and that virtualization and graphics drivers are in order; then tune CPU, memory, graphics, and frame rate for your workload.

Check your PC before changing BlueStacks settings

BlueStacks lists Windows 7 or later, an Intel or AMD processor, at least 4 GB of RAM, 5 GB of free disk space, administrator access, and up-to-date graphics drivers as minimum requirements. Its recommended specifications include Windows 10 or later, a multi-core CPU with a single-thread benchmark score above 1000, a GPU benchmark score of at least 750, virtualization enabled, 8 GB or more of RAM, SSD or Fusion/Hybrid storage, broadband, and current graphics drivers. These are BlueStacks’ published requirements and recommendations, not a guarantee of performance in a particular game. See the BlueStacks 5 system requirements.

BlueStacks states that versions 5.21.300 and below can be used on Windows 7 or Windows 8; its latest version requires Windows 10 or later. Check the version and Windows compatibility before troubleshooting a slow or non-opening installation. If you are considering a storage upgrade, first verify the PC’s drive type, interface, and upgradeability; an SSD is a vendor recommendation, not a guaranteed fix.

Enable and verify virtualization

Virtualization lets BlueStacks use hardware support provided by the processor. BlueStacks recommends enabling it and says multi-core allocation requires virtualization. Its support guidance says Nougat 32-bit can run without virtualization, potentially with performance issues, while Nougat 64-bit and Pie 64-bit require it. Availability and requirements can vary by Android instance.

  1. In Windows, open Task Manager and select Performance > CPU. Check the virtualization status shown on the page.
  2. If it is disabled, restart the computer and enter its UEFI/BIOS setup. Enable the processor virtualization option; its name and location vary by manufacturer and CPU.
  3. Save the firmware change, restart Windows, and check Task Manager again.

For Windows 11-specific instructions and supported checks, consult BlueStacks’ virtualization enablement guide and virtualization status guide. BlueStacks Support has claimed enabling virtualization can provide a “5x increase in performance,” but the cited guidance does not give a test method or conditions; treat that as a vendor claim, not a result you should expect on your PC.

Choose a performance mode for your workload

In BlueStacks 5, open Settings > Performance to choose a performance mode. BlueStacks’ recommendations account for available RAM and whether you are multitasking or running multiple instances:

Mode BlueStacks’ guidance Practical fit
Low Memory Systems with 8 GB of RAM or less; also suggested when running many instances. Use when preserving host memory is important.
Balanced Systems with 8–16 GB of RAM when BlueStacks runs alongside other applications. A sensible starting point for ordinary multitasking.
High Performance Systems with more than 16 GB of RAM during a dedicated gaming session. Choose when BlueStacks is the main workload; BlueStacks advises against keeping many other applications open.

These are vendor recommendations, not fixed thresholds that guarantee a particular frame rate. Apply the setting, restart BlueStacks if prompted, and judge it with your actual game and workload. BlueStacks documents the modes in its Performance mode guide.

Allocate CPU cores and memory without starving Windows

In Settings > Performance, BlueStacks lets you adjust CPU cores and memory/RAM. The useful allocation depends on the app and what else the PC must run. Do not assign every available host resource to the emulator: Windows, drivers, security software, and any open applications still need CPU time and memory. More than one CPU core requires virtualization. If a change does not take effect immediately, restart BlueStacks.

  • Simplistic Design: Enjoy the latest generation of Windows 11 Home for your everyday needs. *MSI recommends Windows 11 Pro for business use.
  • Cool While Gaming: In conjunction with an ARGB fan Air Cooler, the Codex R2 features four system cooling fans; three in the front and one in the rear to pull in cool air and push heat out of the PC.
  • Turn on the Bright Lights: With the built-in RGB lighting, take your gaming experience to the next level by pressing the MSI LED button to cycle through lighting options. Customize lighting even further with MSI Center software.

BlueStacks explains the allocation controls and their requirements in its CPU and memory allocation guide. Adjust one setting at a time so you can tell whether the change helps the game without making the host system less responsive.

Set graphics and frame rate for the game

BlueStacks exposes frame-rate controls and graphics options, but the best combination depends on the game, Android instance, GPU, and preference for smoothness versus stability. Open Settings to review frame rate, the high-frame-rate option, VSync, FPS display, graphics renderer, interface renderer, ASTC textures, and GPU selection. Use the FPS display to observe behavior rather than assuming that a higher target will be sustainable.

  • Dell Services: 1 Year Onsite Service provides support when and where you need it. Dell will come to your home, office, or location of choice, if an issue covered by Limited Hardware Warranty cannot be resolved remotely.
  • Frame rate and high frame rate: Set a target the game and PC can maintain. A higher target can demand more resources; it is not automatically smoother if performance fluctuates.
  • VSync: Try the toggle if you are investigating visual synchronization or stability. Its effect can depend on the game and graphics setup.
  • Renderer: Test a game-compatible option rather than assuming one renderer is best for every machine. Available choices differ by Android instance.
  • GPU: If the PC has integrated and dedicated graphics, check that BlueStacks is using the intended GPU. The available control and behavior can depend on the system.
  • ASTC textures and interface renderer: These are additional graphics controls; change them only when addressing a specific compatibility or visual-performance issue.

BlueStacks says Vulkan is available only on Pie, Android 11, and Android 13 instances. Nougat 32-bit and 64-bit instances may offer OpenGL or DirectX and a Compatibility/Performance graphics-engine mode. Save graphics changes and restart BlueStacks for them to take effect. See the graphics settings guide and Settings menu reference for the controls available to your instance.

  1. Restart the PC and BlueStacks. This clears temporary problems before you make configuration changes.
  2. Confirm compatibility and requirements. Check your Windows version, BlueStacks version, available memory and disk space, and graphics drivers against the published requirements.
  3. Check virtualization. Verify its status in Task Manager under Performance > CPU; follow the firmware steps above if it is disabled.
  4. Update graphics drivers and pending Windows updates. Use the appropriate driver source for your graphics hardware and restart if an update requires it.
  5. Review BlueStacks resource settings. Revisit performance mode, CPU cores, and memory allocation. Avoid leaving Windows with too little headroom.
  6. Reduce competing workloads. Close applications you do not need, check whether many BlueStacks instances are running, and disable unnecessary startup programs if they are consuming resources.
  7. Check GPU selection and security software. Confirm the intended GPU is in use. If antivirus interference is suspected, consult BlueStacks’ troubleshooting instructions and your security software’s guidance rather than disabling protection indiscriminately.
  8. Escalate persistent problems. If BlueStacks still will not open or remains slow, use its support/report process so the issue can be investigated with system-specific information.
