Reporting describes a major iPhone design push spanning the 2025–2028 product cycles: a redesigned iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air in 2025, a foldable iPhone in 2026, and a glass-centric Pro redesign reportedly planned for the iPhone’s 20th anniversary in 2027. These are reported plans, not Apple announcements; Apple’s current lineup includes iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Air, iPhone 17, iPhone 17e, and iPhone 16.
Here is what reporting says about each cycle, what has changed in the rumors, and how to think about buying now versus waiting.

The reported iPhone roadmap
| Cycle | What reporting says | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | Redesigned iPhone 17 Pro models and the introduction of iPhone Air. | This is retrospective context in the reported three-year sequence. The account described a new aluminum design for the Pro models and a thinner Air. MacRumors’ summary of Bloomberg reporting covered the sequence. |
| 2026 | A first foldable iPhone, alongside other iPhone models. | Apple’s current lineup names its foldable iPhone Duo. Earlier reports used “iPhone Ultra,” but that should not be treated as the confirmed name. Details such as a passport-like folded size, Touch ID, an advanced hinge, and a price above $2,000 remain reported claims, not confirmed specifications or pricing. 9to5Mac’s summary of Bloomberg reporting covered these claims. |
| 2027 | A Pro redesign reportedly planned for the iPhone’s 20th anniversary, plus a second foldable generation. | The reported Pro design uses glass curving around the sides with a metal band between the front and back. An even more ambitious uninterrupted-glass concept was reportedly scrapped after manufacturing-scale problems. The Irish Times’ account of the Bloomberg report offers the more precise description. |
| 2028 | A possible third-generation foldable, with slightly larger inner and outer displays. | This is a reported possibility, not a confirmed product or complete 2028 lineup. The cited coverage does not establish exact screen sizes. MacRumors’ summary of the foldable roadmap describes the possibility. |
Two separate design stories
The foldable iPhone and the anniversary Pro redesign are distinct reported product lines, not one device. The foldable roadmap focuses on a new form factor and later generations. The Pro rumor concerns a glass-centric redesign reportedly timed for the iPhone’s 20th anniversary.

The 2027 design rumor has also become more specific. Rather than presenting a no-cutout, uninterrupted-glass phone as settled, later reporting describes curved glass and a metal band, while saying the more ambitious all-glass concept was abandoned. Apple has not confirmed the design. The Irish Times report says Apple declined to comment.

What the roadmap means if you are buying an iPhone
If you need a phone now, compare the models Apple currently lists rather than buying on the strength of a rumor. If a folding screen or the reported 2027 redesign is especially appealing, waiting may be worth considering—but reported plans, launch timing, names, prices, and features can change.
- Compare current models by form factor, display needs, and how you use your phone.
- Decide whether a conventional iPhone or a foldable form factor better suits your everyday use and multitasking.
- Weigh the certainty of a currently listed model against the uncertainty of a reported future design.
- Check Apple’s current iPhone lineup for official product information before buying.
The cited reporting does not establish final 2027–2028 specifications or a complete price comparison, so there is no reliable basis here for comparing future models on exact specs or prices.

Is the reported 2027 iPhone supposed to be all glass?
Later reporting describes a glass-centric Pro design with glass curving around the sides and a metal band between the front and back. It also says a more ambitious uninterrupted-glass concept was scrapped, so a no-cutout all-glass design should not be presented as settled.

Should I wait to buy an iPhone?
That depends on whether you need a phone now and how much you value a possible foldable or anniversary redesign. Compare officially listed models if you are buying now; treat future models and their timing as uncertain until Apple confirms them.
