Those are reported possibilities, not confirmed Apple specifications. The most concrete rumor is an OLED screen; Apple has not announced a successor, and the reported late-October 2026 launch window and any price remain unconfirmed.
What changes are being reported for the next iPad mini?
Reports point to several potential hardware changes, but none has been confirmed by Apple. OLED is the clearest reported upgrade; details such as the final display specifications, durability rating and release date remain unsettled.

Will the next iPad mini have an OLED screen?
OLED is the strongest specific hardware rumor. Unlike an LCD, an OLED panel can turn individual pixels off, enabling deeper blacks and higher contrast in dark scenes. Reports describe richer colors and contrast as expected benefits, but Apple has not confirmed that the next mini will use OLED.
There is not enough reliable detail to promise a particular size, brightness, panel design or refresh rate. In particular, the rumor does not establish 120Hz ProMotion or a display equivalent to the iPad Pro’s. Treat OLED as a reported direction, not a complete specification.

What chip might it use, and what would that mean?
The current iPad mini uses A17 Pro. Early successor speculation included A19 Pro or A20; newer coverage points to A20 Pro as the leading reported possibility. Apple has not confirmed the chip, and there are no verified benchmark comparisons for an unannounced model.
That makes a claim of a specific speed or performance gain premature. If performance is your reason to wait, compare the final chip and independent testing after Apple announces the device rather than relying on the rumor alone.

Could it be water-resistant?
Reports describe Apple working on a more water-resistant casing, potentially alongside a vibration-based speaker system that reduces the need for conventional speaker openings. That possible design connection does not establish the device’s protection level.

Would a landscape-edge camera make a difference?
If the reported camera move is accurate, a front camera on the landscape edge could make video calls feel more natural when the tablet is held horizontally or used on a stand. The claim comes from an interpretation of leaked imagery, not an Apple confirmation. It also does not establish a camera sensor upgrade.
When could it arrive, and what might it cost?
MacRumors relayed a reported target of a new OLED iPad mini by late October 2026. That is a forecast, not a confirmed ship date or event announcement. Apple has not announced a successor price, so there is no reliable figure to use for a buy-now-or-wait comparison.

Should you buy the current iPad mini or wait?
The confirmed comparison point is the iPad mini (A17 Pro), introduced on October 15, 2024, according to Apple’s product environmental report. Apple’s iPadOS 26 feature document lists this model as supporting Apple Intelligence features, subject to language, region and feature limitations.

- Buy the current model if: you need a small tablet now and its confirmed features and current price suit you. The successor’s rumored upgrades are not a reason to assume the existing model is unsuitable.
- Consider waiting if: OLED is central to your decision, or you want to see whether the reported camera placement, speaker design or water resistance becomes real. Wait for official specifications before treating any of those as guaranteed.
- Keep timing and cost in perspective: the reported late-October window could change, and there is no confirmed successor price. Weigh that uncertainty against how soon you need a tablet.
