macOS 27, Apple’s “Golden Gate” release, makes Siri AI more capable in three notable ways: it can search personal context across your Mac, take actions in apps, and use what is onscreen as a starting point for help. Apple also describes Siri AI as conversational and available through a dedicated app, but its capabilities are not guaranteed to be unlimited or available to every user.
What’s new for macOS 27?
Apple’s macOS 27 feature page highlights Siri AI alongside next-generation Apple Intelligence in apps such as Photos, Messages, and Safari; Visual Intelligence on Mac; Liquid Glass design refinements; and broader responsiveness improvements. The three Siri changes below are the clearest ways to understand what the update adds. Apple’s macOS 27 overview describes these capabilities, but does not establish that Siri will always produce accurate results or that every feature will be available to every user.

Three key Siri AI upgrades
1. Search personal context across your Mac
Siri AI can search personal context, including information in photos, email, and notes. That means a request can be grounded in your own content rather than only in a general answer. Apple describes the capability, but does not promise that Siri will find every relevant item or interpret it correctly.

2. Take actions in apps
Siri AI can take actions in apps and respond to current activity. This moves Siri beyond answering a question: it can help carry out a task within an app. Apple’s description does not specify every supported app or action, so the exact scope may depend on the app and the feature’s availability.

3. Use onscreen content as context
Visual Intelligence can use a screenshot of an image or PDF on your screen to answer questions, search, or take action. This gives you a way to ask about content you are already viewing without first describing it from scratch.
Conversation, online answers, and availability
Apple says Siri AI can handle natural-language conversation, answer questions using online information, and continue conversations through a dedicated app. Siri AI is rolling out in English, and usage limits may apply. Apple’s feature description does not specify all language, account, or usage conditions, so availability should not be assumed for every user.

Will your Mac run macOS 27?
MacRumors reported that macOS 27 Golden Gate was publicly released on September 14, 2026, and requires Apple silicon with an M1 chip or newer. Its compatibility list excludes Intel Macs and includes these models: MacRumors’ macOS 27 compatibility report is secondary reporting, so check Apple’s current compatibility information for your specific Mac before upgrading.

What Intel-app users should consider
MacRumors also reports that macOS 27 is the last major macOS release with Apple’s full Rosetta translation layer for Intel apps on Apple silicon. That may matter if your workflow depends on software built for Intel Macs. The same report says Intel Macs will continue to receive security updates for three years; treat that duration as secondary reporting rather than a statement directly attributed to Apple.
