No. macOS 27.2 beta 3 reportedly contains touch-related code and a Dock animation that fuel speculation about a touchscreen MacBook Pro, but they do not confirm that Apple is making one. Some of the code could support Sidecar, Apple’s feature for using an iPad as a Mac display. As of October 7, 2026, Apple had not announced a touchscreen MacBook Pro or confirmed its specifications or release date.
What macOS 27.2 beta 3 reportedly adds
Reporting by 9to5Mac on October 5 describes touch-gesture references in four built-in apps, plus a long-press animation for Dock icons. These are observations in beta software, not confirmation that a shipping Mac has a touchscreen.

- Quick Look: a “dragTouch feature.”
- Dock: an app icon reportedly enlarges when clicked and held.
MacRumors also reported the app-level references on October 5. The Dock response resembles long-press behavior on iOS and iPadOS, but resemblance is suggestive rather than proof of a new Mac input method.
Why the touch code does not prove a touchscreen Mac
MacRumors cautioned that at least some touch-related code could be intended for Sidecar, which lets an iPad act as a display for a Mac. It also noted that macOS Golden Gate had already added touch input to Sidecar and pull-to-refresh gestures in Safari, Mail, and Calendar. Touch-oriented code in macOS therefore has a plausible use that does not require a touchscreen MacBook.

Beta code can reveal features Apple is developing or adapting, but it does not establish which hardware will use them, whether they will ship, or when. The evidence reported in macOS 27.2 is a clue, not an Apple product announcement.
What is rumored about the touchscreen MacBook Pro
MacRumors reported on October 1 that Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman expected Apple to introduce touchscreen MacBook Pro models in fall 2026, potentially in October or November. Gurman’s reported wording was: “Apple, I believe, will introduce its first touchscreen MacBook Pro this fall, as early as October. It could slip to November, but as early as October.” MacRumors also reported that Apple was testing the laptops with macOS 27.2 beta. This remains attributed reporting, not a confirmed launch plan.

- M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.
- A thinner, lighter design.
- A possible Dynamic Island.
- The possibility that Apple might call the device “MacBook Ultra” rather than MacBook Pro.
Macworld’s roundup, updated October 6, said Apple had not confirmed either the product or its release date. The reporting reviewed also did not establish a price or final specifications.

That depends on whether you need a Mac now or can tolerate uncertainty about the rumored model. Macworld’s current-model listings should not be mistaken for specifications of the rumored laptop.

- Consider buying an existing model if you need a computer on a known timeline and can choose among available configurations.
- Consider waiting for an announcement if touch input or an OLED display would materially affect your choice and you can defer the purchase. Waiting does not guarantee that a touchscreen model will be announced on the rumored schedule.
- Do not budget around a rumored configuration until Apple confirms the model, features, price, and availability.
