For quick edits and a photo library that works in a browser, start with Google Photos. Consider Luminar if you want a separate ChromeOS editing app with the AI, retouching, reshaping, and RAW tools described in its listing. The choice depends on your device, whether you use the web or Android app, and the workflow you need—not on proven image-quality superiority: the official product pages do not provide controlled comparisons.

What “Luminar on Googlebook” means

Googlebook refers to Google’s described class of ChromeOS laptops. The Google Play app listing calls its Android and ChromeOS editor Luminar: Photo Editor & Enhancer. Skylum also offers Luminar Neo as a desktop product. They are related products, but their features and licenses should not be assumed to be interchangeable. Google’s Googlebook overview, Luminar’s Google Play listing, and Skylum’s Luminar ecosystem information describe those offerings.

Google Photos has two relevant experiences on a Chromebook: its website at photos.google.com and its Android app. The available editing tools are not identical, so “Google Photos” does not mean one fixed set of features. Google recommends using the app when an editing feature is missing on the web. Google’s computer editing guide and Chromebook Photos help explain the distinction.

Cost The Play listing describes one-month and annual subscription options, but does not establish a universal current price or a Googlebook-specific offer. Which editor fits your workflow?

Choose Google Photos for quick edits and library access

Google Photos is the more direct choice if you already keep photos there, want familiar adjustments, or need to make edits in a browser. On a Chromebook, open the Android app when a tool you want is not available on photos.google.com. This keeps editing within the library workflow, and edits sync to the account when backup is enabled. Consider Luminar for its dedicated toolset

Luminar is worth considering if its listed AI enhancement, retouching, reshaping, or RAW editing matches what you want to do, or if you want the described Mobile-to-Luminar Neo handoff. Treat the ChromeOS app and desktop Neo as distinct products when checking compatibility, features, and entitlements. Luminar on Google Play; Skylum’s Luminar ecosystem information

Check Chromebook Plus before relying on selected Google Photos AI tools

If Magic Eraser or Unblur is essential, confirm that your device is Chromebook Plus and that it meets the applicable ChromeOS requirement. Google’s Magic Eraser instructions specify ChromeOS 118 or later; availability is not established for every Googlebook or Chromebook. Google Photos Help for Chromebook

What this comparison does—and does not—establish

The published feature descriptions support choosing by platform, tool needs, and library workflow. They do not establish that Luminar or Google Photos produces better-looking results, edits faster, or handles every image better. There is no controlled image-quality comparison in the cited official material, so claims of a universal winner would go beyond the available evidence.
