To brainstorm in Lucidspark, prepare a clear question and a short agenda, open a template or blank board, and have participants capture one idea per sticky note. Then organize related ideas with Gather, prioritize with a Voting session if your plan supports it, and finish by recording owners and next steps. For a first-time facilitator, the key is to plan the session around the features available on your account.
Prepare the question and session format
Start with one focused question the group needs to answer, such as “Which onboarding steps should we simplify?” State what the session should produce: a set of options, a shortlist, or a decision. Share a brief agenda and any useful background material before the meeting so participants arrive with enough context to contribute.
Choose whether people will work together live, contribute asynchronously, or use a mix. Lucid recommends considering collaboration style while planning a brainstorm. Its guide suggests 15–30 minutes as a target for a short session; treat that as practical advice, not a measured optimum. You can divide the time into idea generation, review, and prioritization, adjusting the schedule to the group and task. See Lucid’s guide to effective brainstorms.

Start from a Lucidspark brainstorming template when the group would benefit from a defined structure, or choose a blank canvas when the problem calls for a more open exploration. Lucid lists both brainstorming and reverse-brainstorming templates. A template can guide the conversation without limiting participants to predetermined answers.
Before inviting the group, add the prompt and any context they will need. Make the desired output visible on the board so participants can refer back to it. Lucidspark is a digital canvas; paper notes are optional, not required. For a hybrid workshop, Lucid describes capturing handwritten Post-it® Notes on a board, alongside digital ideation. Its use-case page says: “Start ideating or brainstorming on handwritten Post-it® Notes, and capture and add them to a Lucidspark board in seconds.” See Lucid’s brainstorming use case.

Capture ideas before evaluating them
Ask participants to put one idea on each sticky note. This makes suggestions easy to move, compare, and group later. Encourage concise wording and a range of possibilities; avoid debating or judging ideas while the group is still generating them.
Participants can also use images, freehand drawing, and other visual material to express ideas. Lucid describes Lucidspark as supporting real-time and asynchronous collaboration, templates, AI-supported ideation and summarization, and integrations with Google, Microsoft, and Post-it workflows. Specific tools and integrations can depend on account access and configuration, so check what is available to your group rather than promising a feature in advance. The Lucidspark Help Center lists product guidance for sticky notes, timers, voting, private mode, Breakout Boards, and organization features.

Use a timer to mark phases
A timer can help the group move from generating ideas to reviewing and prioritizing them. Set it for a specific phase when useful, and tell participants what they should accomplish before it ends. The short-session timing advice above is a suggestion from Lucid’s guide, not a universal rule.
Use Breakout Boards for smaller-group work
For a larger group, participants can work on separate Breakout Boards and then return to the main board to share results. Lucid Help Center documentation says Breakout Boards are available only on Enterprise and that a Lucid document can contain up to 50 of them. Participants can choose boards after the session starts, and the facilitator can call them back to the main board. Check the current Breakout Boards guidance before planning around this feature.

Consider private mode to limit early anchoring
Private mode hides the contents and authors of newly created sticky notes while the session is active, which can help participants contribute without immediately seeing others’ ideas. Lucid says an Enterprise user with Edit permission must start the session; active collaborators can participate. The setup can also control whether author visibility is shown afterward. Explain the visibility settings before the session begins, and confirm access in the private mode instructions.
Group related ideas and choose priorities
Cluster notes with Gather
Once idea generation ends, look for themes that can help the group make sense of the board. Gather can group sticky notes by keywords, colors, tags, reactions, or votes. Lucid lists Gather on Free, Individual, Team, and Enterprise plans. Review the resulting clusters with participants: similar-looking notes may represent different needs, while differently worded notes may express the same idea. See Lucid’s Gather instructions.

A Voting session can help the group identify ideas for follow-up. Lucid’s documentation says users on Team and Enterprise plans can create and facilitate voting sessions, while all registered users can participate. Facilitators can configure the vote allotment, eligible object types, optional private voting, instructions, and a timer. Private voting can conceal voter identity in the results. Review the Voting session guidance and confirm the feature is available before making it part of the agenda.
Close with decisions and ownership
Before ending, capture the ideas or clusters the group selected, the person responsible for each follow-up, and where the results will be used. Make the next action specific—for example, assign someone to validate a shortlisted idea or bring a recommendation to a later meeting.
