ING’s home-contents insurance, or inboedelverzekering, is for belongings at your insured home in the Netherlands—not the building itself. Renters can choose Basis, which covers listed events, or All risk, which adds certain sudden, unforeseen accidental damage. Whether it fits depends on the household’s belongings, the policy limits and exclusions, and which optional cover is needed; the available sources do not establish a typical renter’s premium.
What ING contents insurance covers
ING offers two levels of cover: Basis and All risk. Under Basis, cover applies to events specified in the policy. All risk adds cover for certain other sudden, unforeseen events, such as accidentally bumping or dropping an item. The policy document—not the label alone—sets out covered events and exclusions. ING’s product information and its policy documents should be checked for the terms that apply to a particular contract.

As general market context, Consumentenbond describes contents insurance as cover for possessions not fixed to the home and lists events commonly covered by policies, including fire, water damage, lightning, explosion, burglary, violent robbery, storm, scorching, and melting. That overview is not a substitute for ING’s wording: what is covered depends on the chosen cover and policy conditions. Consumentenbond’s guide to contents insurance explains the general distinction between named-event and all-risk cover.
Basis and All risk at a glance
| Cover | What the available terms establish |
|---|---|
| Basis | Cover for events listed in the policy. |
| All risk | Includes listed-event cover and adds certain other sudden, unforeseen events, such as bumping or dropping an item. |
Accidental damage to mobile electronics is subject to separate conditions and may require ING’s optional mobile-electronics module. Do not assume a smartphone, laptop, tablet, or wearable is treated like ordinary household contents.

Limits, valuation, and deductibles
ING’s product information document sets a maximum of €150,000 for belongings per event, while also specifying lower limits for some categories. The policy describes new-value treatment for eligible items up to and including ten years old when they cannot be repaired or replaced, and day-value treatment for items older than ten years. Eligibility and category limits matter: check the current wording against the possessions you would need to claim for.
Key limits and excesses
| Item or circumstance | Limit or deductible in the product information document |
|---|---|
| Belongings | Maximum €150,000 per event, with lower limits for some categories. |
| Theft of valuable contents | Choose a limit of €5,000, €15,000, or €30,000 per event. |
| Theft of jewelry | Maximum €5,000. |
| Standard deductible | Choose €0, €100, or €500 per event. |
| Tenant’s interest damaged by extreme weather | €250 per event; the €500 voluntary deductible also applies if selected. |
“Tenant’s interest” means cover for damage to alterations the renter made to the rental home. For this cover, MoneyView’s data dated 28 May 2026, as reported by Consumentenbond, gives a minimum excess of €250 or more if the voluntary excess is higher. Consumentenbond’s ING comparison entry provides that dated comparison detail.
What renters should verify before choosing it
Glass, electronics, and belongings outside the home
Glass breakage is not included as standard in the product information document; ING offers it as an optional Glass module. The document also lists optional cover for belongings outside the home and for mobile electronics. Each has its own terms, limits, and territorial conditions, so none should be read as blanket worldwide cover.

Consumentenbond notes that renters commonly arrange contents insurance themselves while relying on the landlord or owners’ association for building insurance, and advises checking the glass arrangements. Consumentenbond’s guide for renters covers that distinction.

Exclusions and rental-home fit
The product document names exclusions and circumstances that can affect a claim, including lost belongings, groundwater or changes in groundwater level, intent or recklessness, pets, installation or construction faults, and moisture passing through walls or floors. It also excludes flooding caused by failure of a primary water defence under the stated terms; this should not be generalized to every type of flooding, because the document distinguishes other flooding events.
Tenant’s interest is included as standard according to the document, but that does not make every alteration or cause of damage covered. Read the policy’s definitions and exclusions, especially if you have made improvements to the property or need protection for a specific risk.

How to judge the review score and price
Consumentenbond lists Woonpakket ING (all-risk) with a score of 8.4 on a page updated 1 October 2026. This is a dated score for the all-risk home package, not proof that it is the best fit or best-priced choice for every renter. The comparison entry should be read in that scope.
The reviewed public information does not establish a representative premium for renters. Get a quote using your own Dutch address and selected cover rather than relying on an assumed monthly price. No purchase, claims handling, or customer-service test is established here, so this is a terms-focused review, not a report of personal use.
