No Logitech mouse with a Netflix-style subscription was announced. In a July 2024 interview, CEO Hanneke Faber entertained the idea of a durable “forever mouse” supported by software updates and answered “Possibly” when asked about a subscription mouse. Logitech later said it was not an actual or planned product, and Faber reiterated in 2025 that it was not an actual plan.

What did Logitech’s CEO actually say?

In a July 2024 episode of Decoder, The Verge’s Nilay Patel asked Logitech CEO Hanneke Faber, “Can you envision a subscription mouse?” Faber replied, “Possibly.” Patel followed up by describing a “forever mouse” whose software updates would be paid for through a subscription. Faber agreed with that framing and said the concept would mean users “never have to worry about it again.” She compared the thinking with Logitech’s video-conferencing services, while agreeing that a mouse is different from those services. That exchange establishes that Faber entertained the idea in conversation. It does not establish a product announcement, a subscription offer, or a decision to charge existing mouse owners for updates.

What would the proposed “forever mouse” have been?

Faber described a hypothetical durable mouse that could receive software updates over time, with a possible business model built around that idea. The interview did not specify what those updates would do, how long the mouse would last, or whether customers would pay once or on a recurring schedule.

  • You’ve got the control to do more, faster. Flipping through photo albums and Web pages is a breeze, especially for right-handers—with three standard buttons plus Back/Forward buttons that you can also program to switch applications, go full screen and more. And side-to-side scrolling plus zoom gives you the power to scroll horizontally and vertically through your music library, maps and Facebook feeds, and zoom in and out of photos and budget spreadsheets with a click.* * Requires Logitech SetPoint software (Windows) or Logitech Control Center software (Mac OS X)
  • Two years of battery life practically eliminates the need to replace batteries. ** The On/Off switch helps conserve power, smart sleep mode extends battery life and an indicator light eliminates surprises. ** Battery life may vary based on user and computing conditions.
  • The tiny Logitech Unifying receiver stays in your laptop. There’s no need to unplug it when you move around, so there’s less worry of it being lost. And you can easily add compatible wireless mice and keyboards to the same wireless receiver.

No price, billing interval, release date, product name, supported features, or eligibility terms were provided. The “Netflix-style” comparison is therefore a description of a possible recurring-payment model, not a set of Logitech terms.

What did Logitech and Faber clarify later?

Logitech said it was not an actual or planned product

In response to the coverage, Logitech told The Verge that the mouse was “not an actual or planned product” and described the discussion as “a peek into provocative internal thinking on future possibilities for more sustainable consumer electronics.” Read The Verge’s report on Logitech’s response.

Faber called it not an actual plan in 2025

In an October 2025 interview with Fast Company, Faber addressed the earlier coverage and consumer reaction. She said, “I never used the word subscription. And it’s not an actual plan.” She added that she likes designers to think big, but that she should probably “keep my mouth shut when talking about these ideas.” Read the Fast Company interview.

How the idea differs from buying an ordinary mouse

The interview confirms only the durable-device and software-update concept, along with Faber’s willingness to discuss a subscription model. It does not answer the practical questions a buyer would need resolved before comparing a subscription with ordinary ownership:
