Both Logitech MX Keys and MX Keys Mini use proximity-activated backlighting that adjusts to ambient light. The main practical difference is their layout: MX Keys is full-size and includes a numeric keypad, while MX Keys Mini omits it to save desk width.
Is the backlighting different?
Not in its core behavior. Logitech says the MX Keys backlight turns on when your hands approach and adjusts brightness to suit the surrounding light. Logitech lists the same hand-proximity and ambient-light sensor functions for MX Keys for Business and MX Keys Mini for Business. The available evidence therefore points to shared smart illumination, not a backlighting feature exclusive to the Mini.
Logitech’s Mini product page also points to additional backlight customizations in Logi Options+. The software is available for Windows and macOS, but controls may depend on the keyboard generation; do not assume every MX Keys variant exposes identical settings.

Consumer editions and regional SKUs can differ in accessories, special keys, and key legends, so check the exact model listing and keyboard layout before buying. Logitech lists MX Keys S separately; it is a different model and should not be treated as another name for the MX Keys discussed here.

Which layout makes more sense for your desk?
Choose MX Keys if you use a number pad
The full-size MX Keys includes a 10-key number pad, making it the straightforward choice if you regularly enter figures or prefer a full-size layout. Its cited business specification is about 430 mm wide.
Choose MX Keys Mini if reducing width matters more
At about 296 mm wide in Logitech’s cited business specification, the Mini takes up less desk width and leaves out the number pad. That size difference can suit a desk where space is tight; it does not, by itself, establish an ergonomic or posture benefit.

What battery life does Logitech estimate?
For both keyboards, Logitech states up to 10 days on a full charge with predefined settings, or up to five months with backlighting turned off. These are manufacturer estimates, not independent test results; the five-month figure applies with illumination disabled. Actual battery life can vary with usage and computing conditions.

What should you check before choosing?
- Confirm whether the listing is for MX Keys, MX Keys Mini, or MX Keys S.
- Check the regional keyboard layout and the exact SKU, particularly if you need particular key legends or included accessories.
- Choose based on whether you need the integrated number pad or prefer the Mini’s narrower footprint—not on an assumed difference in core backlighting.
