Livestream.com stopped accepting live broadcasts on February 3, 2025, and its subscriptions could no longer be renewed. Vimeo’s stated migration paths are Vimeo Enterprise for Livestream Enterprise customers and Vimeo Events for Vimeo OTT live events. The right replacement depends on what you streamed and where your audience needs to watch.
What happened to Livestream.com?
Vimeo acquired Livestream in 2017 and gradually integrated its technology into Vimeo. On February 3, 2025, Vimeo announced it was ending Livestream.com as a standalone broadcasting service, saying its own event capabilities had advanced. From that date, users could no longer broadcast live events on Livestream, renew Livestream subscriptions, or use Livestream Enterprise phone support. Vimeo’s announcement was updated February 4, 2025.

The shutdown affected the hosted Livestream.com service; it did not mean that every product bearing the Livestream name stopped working. Livestream Studio, its desktop production software, and existing Studio dongle licenses and hardware machines were described by Vimeo as continuing separately.

What happened to existing Livestream videos?
Vimeo said existing account holders could log in and download videos, and that viewers could watch existing videos on livestream.com or embedded pages until June 2025. That announced access period has passed. Do not assume a legacy recording is still retrievable from Livestream.com; check the account and current Vimeo support guidance before relying on it.

This is separate from Vimeo OTT’s archive handling. Vimeo’s OTT transition FAQ says prior live streams in a Vimeo OTT account are transcoded into on-demand videos and remain in that OTT library. That statement applies to Vimeo OTT accounts, not every video previously hosted on Livestream.com. Read Vimeo’s OTT transition FAQ.
What should you use instead?
If you were a Livestream Enterprise customer
Vimeo’s discontinuation notice directs Livestream Enterprise customers to Vimeo Enterprise live streaming. Treat this as the official migration route, not a guarantee that your former plan, account entitlements, or event setup transferred unchanged. Confirm eligibility, features, support, and current plan requirements with Vimeo before committing to an event.

If you streamed through Vimeo OTT
Vimeo replaced the Livestream-powered Live Events workflow in Vimeo OTT with Vimeo Events. The transition began February 1, 2025. Vimeo says external encoders connected to OTT through RTMP remain supported through Vimeo Events, and that past OTT live streams are retained in the OTT library as on-demand videos. - Live-event workflow: whether you need scheduled events, event management, or an external encoder and RTMP input.
- Recording and archive: where the recording will be stored and how viewers can access it after the event.
- Account and plan: whether your organization qualifies for the required product and what features and support the current plan includes.
Vimeo’s live-events FAQ is the first-party reference for current setup and technical requirements. Vimeo’s announcement establishes the migration direction, but it is not an independent feature or price comparison against every streaming platform. Check current terms and test the intended workflow before promising feature parity.
Livestream Studio is not the same as Livestream.com
Livestream Studio is a separate desktop production tool, not the discontinued hosted broadcasting service. Vimeo said it would continue maintaining Studio and that existing Studio dongle licenses and hardware machines would continue operating. But Studio’s continued operation does not reactivate Livestream.com or automatically transfer account rights to another destination.

Vimeo’s Studio access guide also distinguishes account capabilities: a paid Livestream account does not grant the ability to stream to Vimeo, and a Vimeo account does not include the ability to stream to Livestream. Check that you can access Studio and that the account and plan you will use authorize your intended destination.

If your use case is specifically to keep uploaded videos looping as a 24/7 YouTube live stream, rather than to produce occasional live events, StreamNeo is a separate option to consider.
