If a scheduled LiveReacting broadcast still says “upcoming,” first check whether the YouTube event is meant to be live already. Before its scheduled start, that label can be normal. If the start time has passed, verify the event and time zone, then confirm that LiveReacting or your encoder is connected to that exact event. The label alone does not reveal which part of the setup is at fault.
First, confirm what “upcoming” means
Check both the YouTube watch page and YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. YouTube says a stream scheduled for later may appear in subscribers’ feeds as upcoming; that is expected before the event begins. If the scheduled start time has passed and the event remains upcoming, proceed through the checks below. The status by itself does not establish whether the event, LiveReacting project, or encoder is misconfigured. YouTube: Manage live stream settings

Check the event and its scheduled time
-
In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and confirm that the intended scheduled event exists. Make sure you are checking the correct event rather than another broadcast on the channel.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSpecial offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy. -
Compare the event’s scheduled start time with the time zone on the device used to schedule it in LiveReacting. LiveReacting says scheduling uses the device’s time zone, so a mismatch can make the event appear to start at a different local time than expected. Its help documentation says YouTube streams can be scheduled up to two weeks ahead. LiveReacting Help Center

Open the project’s Settings, then Advanced Settings. Enable Connect to existing stream and select the intended scheduled event from the dropdown. This is the documented workflow for connecting a LiveReacting project to an event that was scheduled separately in YouTube. When selected this way, LiveReacting says it pulls the event’s title and description from the channel. LiveReacting Help Center

Check the selected event against the event shown in YouTube Studio. Selecting a different scheduled event can send the project to the wrong destination, even if the broadcast itself is otherwise ready.

If you use an external encoder, verify its destination and key
If your setup sends a feed from third-party encoder software, check that the encoder is sending to the intended scheduled event and uses the stream key associated with that event. YouTube describes the stream key as the credential and destination information that tells an encoder where to send its feed. YouTube: Manage live stream settings
Do not reset the key as a first step if the existing key is configured correctly. If a channel owner or manager does reset it in YouTube Studio, update the encoder to use the newly generated key; otherwise, it will still be sending with the old one. Never post or share a stream key publicly.

Check privacy and preview expectations
YouTube offers public, private, and unlisted privacy settings. LiveReacting documents that a private preview may be visible only to the creator, and that interactive elements require the stream to be public. These settings can explain why someone else cannot see a stream, but the available documentation does not establish privacy as a cause of an event remaining “upcoming.” LiveReacting Help Center YouTube: Manage live stream settings
Use Plugin Mode only if it matches your setup
LiveReacting lists OBS, Wirecast, StreamYard, and Ecamm as third-party software options through Plugin Mode. This is an alternative workflow when your broadcast uses one of those tools; LiveReacting’s documentation does not say that switching modes by itself fixes an event stuck as upcoming. What to send support if it is still unresolved
Public documentation cannot show the state of your project, selected event, encoder feed, or Live Control Room. When you contact the relevant support channel, include:
- The YouTube event URL and scheduled start time, including its time zone.
- The destination event selected in LiveReacting, or the encoder software and destination you are using.
- Whether YouTube Studio shows an incoming feed.
- Whether the stream is public, private, or unlisted, if visibility is part of the problem.
Do not include the stream key in a public post or support message unless you are using a secure channel that specifically requires it.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a different need—keeping uploaded video looping on YouTube around the clock rather than diagnosing a particular scheduled event—StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and offers any quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start your free StreamNeo day.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does “upcoming” always mean the stream has failed?
No. A scheduled YouTube event may correctly appear as upcoming before its start time.
Should I reset my YouTube stream key to fix an upcoming event?
Not as a first step. Verify the event and destination; if you do reset the key, update the encoder to use the newly generated one.
