For a walking open-house tour, start with YouTube’s mobile live workflow: it is the least elaborate documented setup and lets viewers ask questions in real time. Use a computer webcam for a stationary introduction or Q&A, and an encoder when you need overlays, connected cameras, or more control. Before scheduling, confirm your account is eligible, choose horizontal or vertical framing, and check the property’s connectivity and audio.
What makes a livestream open house different?
A livestream open house is a scheduled, real-time event in which an agent can communicate with prospective buyers. RESO describes viewers asking questions by audio or text and requesting another look at a room or detail. YouTube documents mobile, webcam, and encoder as its streaming methods. Its guidance is at Get started with live streaming. For a camera RTMP example, Insta360 documents an app workflow for Facebook or YouTube; confirm that your own camera and app support the same path before relying on it.

Check YouTube eligibility and presentation format
YouTube’s live-streaming help page says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and meet its minimum age requirement of 16. Check the account and the live interface before the event; platform rules and features can change.

YouTube also describes vertical live streams as discoverable in the Shorts feed. Live Control Room can create horizontal and vertical streams together by default, with the vertical version using a center crop; layout options may be edited before going live. Decide how you will show rooms and details in each orientation rather than assuming a center crop will preserve the framing you want. Confirm available layout options in your account before scheduling.
Prepare the property and the tour
- Confirm the destination and account. Choose the live destination your intended viewers can access, then confirm that the channel can start a live stream under YouTube’s current eligibility requirements.
- Plan the route. Decide where the tour starts, which rooms to visit, and which features deserve a closer view. Leave room for viewer questions and requests to revisit a space—the interaction is what distinguishes a live open house from an on-demand tour.
- Choose orientation and framing. Select horizontal, vertical, or a supported combined layout in the live interface. Check that the framing shows the relevant room features, including when a vertical version is center-cropped.
- Check the connection throughout the property. Walk the intended route with the chosen device and confirm the connection is usable in the places you plan to show. The cited platform guidance does not establish a universal connection-speed threshold for this scenario.
- Check audio and stability. Speak from the positions where you expect to present. A phone is enough for the basic mobile path; a tripod or grip can help during stationary portions. An external microphone is an optional upgrade, especially in an encoder setup, not a requirement for every stream.
- Do a complete route rehearsal. Test the planned movement, room transitions, camera orientation, and how you will respond to questions. If you use connected equipment, verify its compatibility with your phone or camera before the event.
Go live from a phone, webcam, or encoder
Phone-led walking tour
- In YouTube, open the live-streaming flow and select the mobile method available to your channel.
- Set the stream’s title and other event details in the interface, and choose a presentation orientation that suits the tour.
- Start from a planned opening point, hold the phone steadily where possible, and move deliberately between rooms.
- Pause at features viewers may want to inspect and answer questions; respond to requests for another look when practical.
- End the live event from the YouTube interface after the tour and Q&A are finished.
The exact controls and availability can vary with YouTube’s current interface and account eligibility; use the prompts shown for your channel rather than relying on a remembered menu label.

Stationary webcam session
- Use YouTube’s webcam method from a computer with a webcam.
- Position the presenter for an introduction, property presentation, or Q&A from one location.
- Check the camera view and sound before starting, then host the session and answer viewer questions.
- End the stream using the live controls shown in YouTube.
Encoder or camera workflow
- Choose this route if you actually need a controlled production, overlays, or external camera and audio inputs.
- Use the encoder or camera app’s supported platform connection. For an RTMP camera workflow, the platform provides a stream URL and key; follow the camera maker’s documented instructions for entering them.
- Check that the connected hardware works with the device and app, and preview framing and audio before going live.
- Start and end the broadcast using the controls in the encoder, camera app, and destination platform as applicable.
YouTube lists overlays and connected audio or camera hardware as encoder possibilities, not prerequisites. Avoid sharing a stream key: it is a connection credential for sending a feed to the platform.

Software for a more produced or multi-destination event
For a single straightforward tour, a native YouTube method avoids adding production software. A production platform may suit an event that needs overlays or more than one destination, but support is specific to the software and destination. Ecamm’s support page, dated April 7, 2026, lists integrations including Facebook Live, Instagram Live, YouTube Live, and LinkedIn, and says Facebook Groups are not supported because of Facebook API changes. No cited source establishes which platform has the largest audience for an individual agent, or a measurable lift in leads or sales from livestreaming. Choose based on where your intended viewers can join and the production controls you need.
Optional equipment: buy to solve a real problem
- Phone mount, tripod, or grip: may make a stationary introduction or pause steadier, but is not necessary for the basic phone workflow.
- External microphone: a possible upgrade for an encoder or connected-camera setup. Check connector and device compatibility before buying; no specific model is established here as tested or endorsed.
- Camera and encoder: consider them only when a fixed view, overlays, or external inputs solve a genuine production need. YouTube’s encoder guidance does not make this hardware mandatory.
