Microsoft describes the collection as more than 400 report definitions across more than 50 folders. The reports available in a site depend on its Configuration Manager version and reporting setup; use the official report catalogue to check an exact name and its purpose.
What default reports come with Configuration Manager?
The built-in reports cover administrative activity, client health, compliance, endpoint protection, hardware and software inventory, discovery, software updates, and status messages. The examples below are representative, not a complete inventory.

| Endpoint protection | Antimalware activity report; Infected computers; User threat list | Antimalware activity, computers with a detected threat, and threats associated with a user. |
| Hardware inventory | Computer information for a specific computer; Computers with low free disk space; Memory information for a specific computer | Per-device inventory and scoped hardware or storage queries. |
| Site and discovery | Clients that have not reported recently; Computers with duplicate MAC addresses; Inventory dates for a specific computer | Discovery and inventory recency, duplicate identifiers, and last inventory times. |
| Software updates | Compliance, deployment management, deployment states, scan, and troubleshooting report groups | Update compliance, deployment targeting and states, scan states, and scan or deployment errors. |
| Status messages | Count errors in the last 12 hours; Fatal errors by component; Last 1000 messages for a specific computer | Recent status-message counts and filtered error or warning histories. |
Names and categories can be version-sensitive. Check the Microsoft catalogue for the exact report description and applicability before relying on a report in a particular environment.
How to find the built-in reports
In the Configuration Manager console, go to Monitoring > Reporting > Reports. Reports are provided through SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), which Configuration Manager uses as its primary reporting solution.
#1 Best Overall
- Configure SQL Server Reporting Services and install a reporting services point on a site system.
- In the console, open Monitoring, expand Reporting, and select Reports.
- Browse the report folders and select a report. Supply any requested parameters, such as a collection, device, site, or date range, to target the data it retrieves.
During reporting services point installation, Configuration Manager copies report definitions into Reporting Services, creates folders from report categories, and applies security policies. If the Reports node is empty, check whether the reporting services point is installed and configured. See Microsoft’s reporting configuration instructions. Power BI Report Server integration is optional and is available starting with Configuration Manager version 2002.
How to choose the right report
Start with the operational question, then confirm the report’s description, parameters, and data scope. A report with a specific device or collection parameter may be more useful for investigating an individual case than a broad summary.

- Match the category to the task: for example, use client-health reports for check results or remediation, and software-update reports for compliance or scan problems.
- Check its parameters: prompts constrain or target returned data; the report query and required values determine which records appear.
- Match the database to the scope: the reporting services point runs reports against its associated site database. A central administration site database can provide hierarchy-wide global and site data. A primary site’s database provides global data plus site data for that primary and its child secondary sites, but not site data for other primary sites.
- Check version applicability: the current-branch report catalogue identifies reports that have been removed or otherwise vary by release.
- Confirm access: users need the relevant Configuration Manager permissions to run reports, and results are filtered according to the rights of the user running them.
Microsoft’s reporting planning documentation describes the Site Read right and object-specific permissions needed to run reports. The reporting overview also explains report permissions and data behavior.

Version and language differences
The catalogue is for Configuration Manager current branch, but not every entry applies to every release. Microsoft states that the Asset Intelligence category and its reports are removed starting in version 2609; its 67 Asset Intelligence reports apply to version 2603 and earlier. Check the catalogue against the version installed at your site rather than assuming those reports remain available.
Rank #3
Report folder and report names use the site server locale in Reporting Services. If the corresponding language pack is unavailable, Configuration Manager defaults to English. If you install a language pack after the reporting services point, Microsoft says you must uninstall and reinstall that role for the reports to become available in that language. See the configuration guidance for details.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you modify or create reports?
Report folders are read-only in the Configuration Manager console. Administrators can create or modify reports with Report Builder, and SQL statements in supplied reports can be starting points for custom reports. For best reporting performance, Microsoft recommends placing the reporting services point on a remote site system because its background processing can compete with other roles for resources on a site server.
