It is not a managed WordPress plan. Managed WordPress VPS and dedicated servers cost considerably more. Liquid Web’s own coupon terms say promotions don’t carry over to renewals. So the price you pay after the first term depends on the exact plan and the terms shown at checkout. This review is based on Liquid Web’s published pricing and policy pages as checked on 5 October 2026. It does not include hands-on benchmarks or uptime tests.
What the $5 plan actually is
Liquid Web’s Cloud VPS page lists the cheapest configuration at $5 per month with 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM, 30 GB storage and 1 TB bandwidth. Its product FAQ is explicit about support: “Our cloud VPS hosting doesn’t automatically include server management, but you can opt into it.”

In practice, this means you are renting a server, not a finished website setup. You (or someone you hire) handle the operating system, updates, security hardening and troubleshooting unless you add management. The extra cost of management is not part of the $5 figure, so get that quote before comparing Liquid Web with cheaper shared hosts.

How to read the discounts
Several VPS entries show a crossed-out standard price next to a lower promotional one. The VPS table, for example, shows some prices discounted for two months. Liquid Web limits these offers to new accounts, and they don’t apply when you upgrade an existing server.
The WordPress VPS page uses longer discounts, such as the 15%-off-for-24-months display on its general option. The discount length differs by configuration, so check it on the exact plan you pick.

What you’ll pay at renewal
Liquid Web’s coupons page says promotions last only for their stated duration, are for new customers only, can’t be stacked, and can’t be applied to later purchases or renewals. The reasonable reading is that once a promotional period ends, the plan moves off the discounted rate.

- Confirm the billing term (monthly or longer) and how long the discount runs.
- Find the post-discount amount for your specific configuration at checkout.
- Ask what optional management and any license charges cost, since they sit on top of the server price.
- Note the date the promotion ends so a renewal doesn’t surprise you.
Choosing a tier
Compare the full allocation, not the headline monthly price. CPU, RAM, storage and bandwidth all change between tiers, and the right one depends on your traffic and performance needs.
- General compute: balanced workloads such as small apps and typical sites.
- Memory-optimized: RAM-hungry work such as large databases.
- CPU-optimized: processing-intensive jobs.
- WordPress VPS: if you want a WordPress-focused managed environment rather than a bare server.
The 1 GB entry plan suits learning, testing or a very light project. It is a thin margin for a busy production site.

Growth path
Liquid Web says you can upgrade a VPS package to add resources without migrating to a new server. For more demanding workloads it describes moving to a dedicated server. That makes starting small low-risk, but remember the new-customer discounts don’t apply to upgrades of an existing server, so expect to pay the standard rate for the added resources.

Who it suits
- Good fit: technical users who want an inexpensive cloud server with a route to larger VPS or dedicated hardware, and teams that will pay for management.
- Poor fit: beginners who see “$5” and expect a hands-off managed site. Add the management cost first, or look at the WordPress VPS tier.
