If your liquid CPU cooler is a sealed all-in-one (AIO), don’t refill it. The manufacturers covered here describe their AIOs as closed loops that are not designed to be drained or topped up. First identify whether you have a sealed AIO or a custom loop, then follow the exact model’s manual. For a sealed AIO, check airflow, connections and mounting before considering support or replacement.
First identify what kind of liquid cooler you have
AIO coolers combine the pump, tubing and radiator in a factory-assembled unit. The manufacturer guidance below applies to sealed AIO models, not every liquid-cooling setup. A custom loop may have its own service procedure; use its exact manufacturer manual rather than applying AIO advice or assuming it can be refilled.

For the cited products, the answer is clear: CORSAIR says its AIO loop is sealed at the factory, NZXT says Kraken coolers are not designed to be drained or refilled, and ARCTIC says the water loop in the Liquid Freezer II 280 is sealed and requires no water or additives. Read each statement in its product scope: CORSAIR AIO maintenance guidance, NZXT Kraken FAQ, and the ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 280 specifications.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhy opening a sealed AIO is not the fix
A sealed AIO is not a user-refillable reservoir. Opening it can compromise the loop, and it may affect warranty coverage. NZXT specifically warns that opening a Kraken to drain or clean it is not covered by its limited warranty and will not fix a blockage. That is NZXT guidance, not a warranty rule for every brand; check the terms for your own model before doing invasive work.
#1 Best Overall
- XSPC Pure is a clean, eco-friendly PC coolant compatible with all brands of PC water-cooling components
- Based on a refined 8 stage, triple distilled water blend with non-toxic corrosion inhibitors, and long-life non-toxic dyes
- Offers market-leading protection for copper, brass, steel, nickel, aluminum and is safe to use on acetal and acrylic plastics
- extremely low electrical conductivity
- Includes accessory filling cap and straw that attaches directly to coolant bottle
If your symptoms suggest an internal pump failure or blockage, contact the manufacturer or consider a compatible replacement rather than adding coolant. Compatibility depends on your CPU socket, case clearance and radiator mounting space, as well as the specific cooler.
Try these checks before replacing the cooler
NZXT’s troubleshooting guidance for Kraken models recommends checking the pump, mounting, fans and radiator airflow. Its temperature thresholds and diagnostic interpretations are specific to that guidance, not universal benchmarks.

- Designed as the ultimate OVERCLOCKERS fluid. With no fancy glycols or special chemical compounds, just PURE PERFORMANCE.
- Ok for all plastics, rubbers, and miscellaneous gasket materials.
- Special ingredients to prevent build up and corrosion. Clean, low viscosity.
- Affordable and efficient solution for the most extreme performance purist.
- Formulated for high flow pumps and is not prone to mechanical sheering. Specially formulated with excellent lubrication properties to increase pump life.
- Check pump connections and RPM. Confirm the pump cables are connected as specified in the cooler manual. Check the reported pump speed in BIOS or the manufacturer’s software, if applicable.
- Check mounting and contact. Make sure the block is secured correctly and mounted evenly. If you remove it, follow the model instructions and apply fresh CPU thermal paste before reinstalling.
- Confirm the fans are running. Check that radiator fans spin and that nothing obstructs airflow through the radiator.
- Inspect for dust. Dust buildup on the radiator fins or fan blades can restrict airflow and reduce cooling performance.
- Look for model-specific warning signs. NZXT’s Kraken guide labels BIOS idle temperatures above 70°C a strong sign of a cooler problem and temperatures above 75°C suggestive of blockage. It also says a substantial temperature difference between the tubes may indicate a blockage. Treat these as NZXT diagnostic guidance, not general pass/fail limits for all coolers.
Clean radiator and fans without opening the loop
Dust is a practical maintenance issue for AIOs. CORSAIR recommends keeping the radiator and fans free of dust, noting that accumulated dust can impair airflow. Its cleaning guide describes disconnecting cooler cables, removing the block and radiator for cleaning, clearing fan blades and radiator fins with compressed air, then reinstalling the cooler and applying thermal paste before reinstalling the block. That is a manufacturer-specific procedure; check your own model’s manual before removing components, and do not open the coolant loop.

CORSAIR suggests cleaning every 2–3 months in dusty, pet-owning or smoking environments, and twice yearly in a relatively dust-free environment. These are CORSAIR’s suggested examples, not a fixed schedule for every PC. Adjust based on visible dust and your surroundings. See CORSAIR’s AIO maintenance guidance and its AIO cleaning guide.

When to contact support or replace the cooler
If cleaning dust, checking connections and verifying mounting do not resolve the problem, contact the cooler manufacturer with the exact model and symptoms. Warranty coverage varies by manufacturer and product; check it before taking the cooler apart. When support or diagnosis points to internal failure, a replacement may be the practical route. Verify socket compatibility, case clearance and radiator fit before choosing one.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- CONTACT FRAME FOR INTEL LGA1851 | LGA1700: Optimized contact pressure distribution for longer CPU life and better heat dissipation
- ARCTIC's P12 PRO FAN: More power at any speed - more powerful and quieter than the P12, especially at low speeds. Higher maximum speed for optimal cooling performance under high load
- NATIVE OFFSET MOUNTING FOR INTEL AND AMD: Shifting the cold plate center towards the CPU hotspot ensures more efficient heat transfer
- INTEGRATED VRM FAN: PWM-controlled fan that lowers the temperature of the voltage converters and thus ensures reliable performance
- INTEGRATED CABLE MANAGEMENT: The PWM cables of the radiator fans are integrated in the sheathing of the hoses so that only a single visible cable is connected to the motherboard
