How to Add and Manage Multiple Philips Hue Bridges

Philips Hue supports multiple Bridges in one Home, but publishes no numeric maximum. See what works across Bridges, what remains Bridge-specific, and how to organize Homes.

You can add multiple Philips Hue Bridges to one Hue Home and control lights from them in the Hue app. Philips Hue’s public setup guide does not state a maximum number, so there is no confirmed numeric limit to quote. Multiple Bridges do not act as one fully unified hub: some controls remain limited to lights on an individual Bridge.

What multiple Bridges can—and cannot—do

Philips Hue describes a Hue Home as supporting multiple Bridges. The company’s guide says, “With the Multi-Bridge feature, a home can support multiple Bridges alongside the already supported multiple Cameras.” That confirms multi-Bridge support, but not an unlimited number or a specific ceiling. The Hue setup guide does not publish a numeric maximum.

Lights, Rooms, and Zones from Bridges assigned to the same Home can appear together in the Hue app’s Home tab. This is a consolidated view, not full cross-Bridge control. Philips Hue says automations, accessories, and Entertainment areas cannot control lights across different Bridges; an Entertainment area cannot combine lights from more than one Bridge.

How to organize Bridges in the Hue app

  1. Choose the Home arrangement. For Bridges serving one physical home, use Philips Hue’s current in-app steps to bring them into the same account and Home. For separate locations, you can keep separate accounts or assign each location its own Home under one account.
  2. Check which Bridges belong to each Home. Philips Hue’s guide points to Settings, then My Homes. App labels can change, so follow the current prompts in your version of the Hue app if the wording differs.
  3. Switch Homes when managing separate locations. The app displays and controls one Home at a time; Bridges assigned to other Homes are not shown in the active Home view.

What to check before adding another Bridge

  • Device capacity: The number of lights and accessories a Bridge model supports is separate from the number of Bridges allowed in a Home. Consult Philips Hue’s Bridge capacity FAQ for model-specific capacity; it does not establish a per-Home Bridge limit.
  • Feature scope: If you need an automation, accessory, or Entertainment area to span lights connected to different Bridges, the documented Bridge-specific boundaries may make a second Bridge unsuitable for that use.
  • Voice assistants: Voice control across Bridges depends on the partner integration. Philips Hue says relinking an integration may be needed in some situations and that partner behavior varies. Check current instructions for the specific assistant or platform you use.
  • Subscriptions: Philips Hue says a Bridge with a linked subscription, such as a Secure plan or Sync TV app subscription, cannot currently be moved using its described account-consolidation process. Check the account implications before trying to consolidate that Bridge.

When a second Bridge makes sense

A second Bridge may be useful when your installation needs another hub and you can keep the relevant lights and functions within the boundaries of each Bridge. If the issue is capacity, compare your device needs with the published capacity for the specific Bridge model; do not infer a number of Bridges per Home from those capacity figures. For a larger installation, Philips Hue also offers a Bridge Pro, but check its current capacity and compatibility information against your setup before choosing it.
