Its builder, Bhuvan Boddu, says he created it after seeing useful customization and analytics constrained by paid tiers and worrying about control of audience data on closed platforms. The project is open source and can be self-hosted, but that also means taking responsibility for setup and maintenance.
Why Bhuvan Boddu built LinkYaar
Boddu frames LinkYaar as a response to a mismatch: a link-in-bio page can be central to a creator’s online identity, yet the tools available to shape it may be limited by a service’s feature tiers and data practices. In his account, paid restrictions on customization and analytics, along with concern about audience data being held on a closed platform, motivated him to build an alternative.

He captured his reaction this way: “For a page that is literally your identity on the internet, that felt backwards.” That is Boddu’s perspective as the project’s builder, not evidence that every competing service handles features or data in the same way. The available project materials do not establish an independent, current comparison of Linktree’s pricing, privacy practices, export options, or feature tiers.
What LinkYaar says it offers
LinkYaar’s website describes a shareable page for links, social profiles, and other work. It advertises tools for organizing and scheduling links, themes, QR codes, analytics, and data export. These are first-party product claims; they have not been independently tested here.

That feature list is useful for deciding what to investigate, but it does not by itself show how LinkYaar compares with a particular Linktree plan. A meaningful comparison would need to account for current feature availability, customization, analytics and privacy practices, export options, and whether you want a hosted service or are willing to operate your own installation.
How LinkYaar is built
The project repository describes an application built with Next.js using the App Router, React, and strict TypeScript. Its interface uses Tailwind CSS v4 and shadcn/ui; Supabase provides Postgres, row-level security, authentication, and storage. The repository also lists Resend for email, Upstash Redis as an optional rate-limiting service, optional AI providers, and optional PostHog and Sentry observability, with Vercel listed for deployment.

Those components matter most if you plan to run or modify the software. In particular, self-hosting is not simply choosing a theme on a hosted page: it involves configuring the application and its database, then maintaining the environment where it runs.

Can you self-host LinkYaar?
Yes. The repository’s README includes a quick start for self-hosting. It specifies Node 20 or later, pnpm, and Supabase URL and key configuration. The README says other services are optional and that the application degrades gracefully when they are not configured. These are the project’s documented requirements; setup and deployment have not been independently run or verified here.

- Install Node 20 or later and pnpm.
- Clone the public LinkYaar repository and install its dependencies using pnpm, following the current README.
- Copy the environment example as instructed in the README.
- Configure the required Supabase URL and key.
- Start or deploy the application using the repository’s current instructions. Add optional integrations only if you need them.
Before following these steps, check the README for current commands and configuration names. Dependencies and deployment instructions can change; this overview is not a substitute for the repository’s up-to-date setup guide.
What the open-source license means
The repository identifies LinkYaar as AGPL-3.0-or-later. Its README summarizes that users may use and self-host the software and charge for hosting it, while a modified version offered as a public service must share its source. That is the project’s summary, not a complete legal interpretation. Read the full license before distributing modifications or offering a modified version as a service.

Who LinkYaar may suit
LinkYaar is worth considering if you want an open-source link-in-bio application, value the option to self-host, and are comfortable reviewing the project’s documentation and operating requirements. A hosted alternative may be a better fit if you do not want to manage deployment and maintenance. The project’s feature claims and open-source status are not, on their own, proof that it is the best choice for every creator.
