Lifetime cloud storage deals are real offers, but “lifetime” does not mean permanent service. Providers define the term in their contracts, and access can depend on conditions such as account activity, continued service availability, and the plan’s included features. The key risk is not that every deal is a scam; it is that a one-time payment can sound like a guarantee that the terms do not actually make.
What “lifetime” means in the terms
There is no universal definition of lifetime cloud storage. The provider’s contract controls, and providers can set different limits and conditions.

pCloud: the account owner’s life or 99 years
pCloud’s user service agreement says, “A lifetime plan is in effect for the duration of the lifetime of the account owner or 99 years, whichever is shorter.” The same terms reserve the ability to change or discontinue services and address account termination if the company ceases operation. That is a defined paid plan, not a promise that the service will exist forever. Read pCloud’s user service agreement.
Internxt: age 99, with activity provisions
Internxt describes lifetime access through age 99. Its legal terms also define an account as inactive after more than 12 consecutive months without login, upload, download, or another substantive interaction. They describe activity review and a notice process that may lead to termination and data deletion if the account holder does not respond affirmatively. Buyers should read those provisions rather than treating “lifetime” as unconditional access. Read Internxt’s legal terms.

Why a real offer can still be a risky bet
A legitimate offer and a durable guarantee are different things. A one-time payment puts more continuity risk on the buyer: the buyer pays upfront, but future access still depends on the provider continuing to operate and honor the offer. Cloud storage also requires ongoing infrastructure, including hardware and bandwidth. A provider might change its business model, discontinue a service, or stop operating.
TechRadar’s guide to lifetime cloud storage cautions that “lifetime” does not mean forever and discusses the possibility of services or offers ending. That is a general risk, not evidence that any particular provider is insolvent or fraudulent. Read TechRadar’s guide to lifetime cloud storage.

Check what you are actually buying
Storage capacity is only one part of the offer. Features, refund rights, and conditions may vary by plan and purchase date, so check the exact checkout page and terms that apply to your purchase.
Capacity and included features
Internxt’s current plan page lists lifetime options of 1TB, 2TB, and 5TB, along with features including computer backup and file versioning. It also advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee. These are provider-stated details for the page’s current offer, not independent proof of future service performance or company solvency. Confirm what appears for your region at checkout, and verify which features apply to the specific plan. Check Internxt’s current plans.

Terms, upgrades, and refunds
- Read how the contract defines “lifetime” and whether it includes an age limit.
- Check inactivity rules, review procedures, notice requirements, and the consequences of not responding.
- Confirm what storage, backup, file-versioning, sharing, and other features are included in the plan you are buying.
- Look for upgrade limits, data retrieval or export options, and the refund terms that apply to your purchase.
- Compare the one-time payment with the recurring alternative over the number of years you realistically expect to use the service. Include potential upgrades and taxes; offers and prices change, so use current checkout figures rather than assuming a discount will remain available.
Keep another copy of important files
Do not make a lifetime cloud account the only home for important files. A separate local copy on an external hard drive or portable SSD reduces dependence on one provider; choose a drive with enough capacity and compatibility for your devices. A cloud account can still be useful as an off-site copy, but a local backup does not remove the risk of provider changes or service ending.

Not as a category: a lifetime plan can be a real offer with written terms. But the word “lifetime” can invite a mistaken assumption of permanent, unconditional access. Judge the contract, activity rules, included features, exit options, and your backup setup—not the headline discount alone. Provider claims about encryption or audits are also not the same as independent verification; the cited information does not establish an independent assessment of code, security audits, or technical performance.
